BSH is recalling about 500,000 dishwashers manufactured from May 1999 through July 2005. It is a voluntary recall. See the link below for models affected and how to get a repair. I called today and they are shipping the part directly to me. I got a case number, and the phone number to arrange for a free in home repair when the part arrives.

Okay something I don't understand. I've never heard that company's called dishwashers back, here in belgium... Is that normal? I mean, what's the real problem... are we too easy here, or not as powerful to blame the company's? Or do I live on mars?

I think

Hi Askomiele. I think the recall only covers a defective part in the DW. I don;t think they will replace the DW.....Bill in Az.....

I just had the recall repair done on my Bosch dw.

It involved replacing a control module (electronic timer) in the door's control panel.

If you have the work done, make sure the tech programs the replacement control module BEFORE he or she reassembles the control panel to the door. That's because one of the switches that needs to be pressed to activate the programming mode is hidden once the control panel is re-assembled. The tech that installed the control module in my dw failed to program it properly. I wound up disassembling the control panel after he left and reprogramming it myself according to the instructions that came with the replacement part. Works fine.

This was a voluntary recall on Bosch's behalf. Apparently there were some instances of the control module causing overheating/fire in some dishwashers. The US Govt did not ask Bosch to do the recall, Bosch decided to do it on its own. My dw ran fine for 5 years so I don't think it was in any great danger of self-immolation, but I decided to play it safe.
