A family friends hoover quattro easy logic 1300 spin has just had the module fail. Its been thoriughly checked so nothing can be done, not filling, not turning etc.

They asked me to choose them a new washer, but no too expensive. About £400. They have always bought hoover, this lasted 10 years and before they had the long lasting logic 1300, they had two next to each other and i used to go there put them both on together and c which finishes first. lol.

I don't which machine to recommend. They said something like hotpoint or hoover (no to hoover)but they like the aqualtis.
Any reccomendations? please

Zanussi

or anything by the eletrolux group really.

Bosch/Siemens would be a good choice, but I'd say Electrolux machines are slightly better. I couldn't really recommend anything by the Indesit company or Candy Group, although I've heard the Aqualtis isn't too bad.

Have you tried tempting them with Miele? Hehe

Matt

Maybe an aquiltis basic model is a good choice. It seems better build than normal hotpoints. Or an AEG is also good. Just go MOL for aeg's. If you can persuade them on miele... it's a good choice anyway. Maybe they have the 7kg also in the uk.

Stiftung Warentest, the German consumer organisation tested in oktober 2008 washers that had a max. spinspeed of 1200rpm. Bosch/Siemens washers came out as the best of the frontloaders. An AEG model came out of the test as the worst model because the outer drum started leaking during the test period. Miele came out as the best one of the toploaders (there was no Miele frontloader tested because Miele doesn't sell a 12oorpm model in Germany). I noticed that the rinse performance of the AEG/Electrolux models was definitely worse than of the Bosch/Siemens machines.

They're definitely not going to get a miele due to price lol. They want a good capacity like 7 or 8kg with good spin so about 1400 or more.

They have liked the aqualtis a lot.
I'll show em the zanussis but their daughter had one and had bad experience.

carry on posts, thanks a lot

Post# 330307 , Reply# 6   2/14/2009 at 14:05 (5,549 days old) by electron800 ()
one thing to bear in mind about capacity

a lot of them lie :). For example, Hotpoints rated 6kg, 7kg and 8kg all have the exact same size drum now. So bear that in mind before they choose a machine for it's capacity over build quality, etc.

Also remember that a 1400rpm spin is normally B rated, the same as most 1200rpm spin machines. So most 1200 spin washers will spin pretty much just as well as most 1400 spin machines, but with less wear on internal parts and possibly less creasing.

I'm with Matt....

I think a juggle between ultimate capacity, spin, programme time and reliability is an important consideration...

I gather the Hoover is either 5 or 6kg....and if they have not had an issue with that, then I would be suggesting another 6kg machine or, if they have to have larger, then go for a 7kg machine....

Several reasons....

- why go larger if you are happy?
- the larger you go, the longer the programmes tend to get
- big does not equal better...I have concerns about the overall reliability of machines as they go past 7.5kg...Ask yourself why Miele don't make a domestic machine larger than 6.5kg?

I am a fan of Zanussi (and badged) machines. I have 2. A jetsystem in a rental property and a john Lewis equiv. as a daily driver. Neither have given any problems...

From a performance point of view, John Lewis badged machines get a good review (they are made by Zanussi) and several models have been recommended over the last couple of years by Which?...

If you can find an Electrolux badged machine (try online like the co-op), they too have solid results but have not been recommended due to 'insufficient data' - They are made by Zanussi so should rate well for reliability (Miele 95%, Bosch 92%, Zanussi 91%, Tricity Bendix/AEG/Beko 88%) should be fine and are at least the equal of Siemens (88%)

Bosch get mixed wash results as do AEG...and AEG appear to have become suddenly expensive too....

...and my wild card is Beko.

They are not as expensive as a Mid model Bosch or AEG, but are built well and fully featured...certainly better than Indesit and Servis and appear to have good reliability. My mother has the Fisher and Paykel equivalent to this one - WMXD760W....and it gets a good rating from which? and Choice in Oz...including a good rinse rating...

My advise is to do yourself a favour get a Bosch / Neff/ Siemens appliance (all the same company). They are more expensive but are quality machines.

please Don't get a Beko (made in Turkey), high failure rate.

Incidently Comet are doing a Bosch washing machine for £239, wow!

Definitely not beko or candy or indesit.
Yeah the hotpoint drums fro aquarius and aquarius+ and ultima is the samw but the aqualtis drum is different and bigger and they're more reliable and better build.

Interesting.....

ronhic's profile picture
...that you say that about Beko....and it would be a good to know how old the machines are and if service is an issue too...

The machine I mentioned gets a good review on 2 continents and the reliability rating on Which? gets the same score as AEG/Electrolux and Siemens....

I personally think that Beko is one brand to watch. They bought Blomberg in 2001/2 and their machines have improved in leaps and bounds since then. Blomberg as a brand has a very strong and good name (if not sales compared to Bosch or Miele) in Germany (from what I understand) and Arcelik are now selling Beko machines as a 2nd tier product under the Blomberg name in some countries too....

if u want a zanussi why just get the aeg lavamats as the new zanuzzis i saw in currys had less options on than the aegs.

I'd up the price to £550+ and look for the lg f1403TD 9kg capasity machine as i kind of like the drum layout and two optional rinses and tub clean function.

I agree totally with Matt (Electon 800).

The Aqualtis is fine but it does have a noisy cheap pump and is starting to get noisier on spin. Bear in mind I don't use it that much. I much prefer the Jetsystem I have which I got for £340. Remember these are Indesit type machines and the out of balance can be a nightmare, really extending wash times.

Bosch are are good but I do find they have the most annoying motor noise, really high pitched and whiny. In fact my Bosch used to vibrate more than the Hotpoint WD640.

Good luck with whatever they buy.

Rob

What about the bosch logixx 8kg 1200 spin.

I know they are similar to siemens, but would that be a yes or no.

About Beko, my cousin bro has still got his, however the cotton 40oc takes 2hours with quick wash selected. too long and its loud but 1400rpm and a class. 1 and half years old.

Thanks for all the posts.

would anyone recommend a hoover washing machine?

Post# 330420 , Reply# 15   2/15/2009 at 07:05 (5,548 days old) by islingtonsteve ()

I would...

I've had the vision 1400 with invertor motor for a year now and its one of the best i've used. Very quiet, washes great, uses a huge amount of water for rinsing. Pump is also quiet. It take 1.32hr to do a full 9kg cotton wash, but if you are only washing a half load or less it calculates a new wash time and it usually cuts about 20 mins off the overall time. A family friend bought one about three months ago on my recommendation and couldn't be happier. Check out the currys website and the reviews that have been left - everyone seems pleased.

beko washer

hi ronhic,
Sorry I just can't let that pass without comment: quote 'I personally think that Beko is one brand to watch. They bought Blomberg in 2001/2 and their machines have improved in leaps and bounds since then'.

The last range of Bloomberg were indeed a throwback machine when they came out at a time when most brands were going for cheapness, but to say that Beko have improved leaps and bounds since then is a shocking thing to say!, and suggests you know very little about the actual engineering side of these appliances (which I don't want to go on too much about).

With regard to Which reports, I think we are all wise enough to know that testing a new machine will not tell you anything about build quality and future reliability.

regards bertrum

i've told them that Bosch are good, showed them the zanussi from the currys brochure, model zwf14380w. Also showed them hoover vision 9kg and hotpoint aqualtis. I gave them a currys brochure and they'll decide then let me know.

Thanks for all the reccomendations! Beko maybe good now but due to their past its given them a bad name. But the beko express really appealed to me as it had a 30oc program for cottons which took 30 mins and a 60oc program for 7kg that took 58mins and a special 14 minute quick wash.

Post# 330452 , Reply# 20   2/15/2009 at 11:08 (5,548 days old) by electron800 ()

I'm sticking firmly with the suggestions that either an AEG/Electrolux/Zanussi/Tricity Bendix, or a Bosch/Siemens/Neff machine will be the best one for the price.

Beko seem better than other cheap machines, but that's still what they are, cheap machines.

They have said they're willing to pay about £400 so without a doubt one of the machines I just mentioned will serve them best.

Matt

Post# 330455 , Reply# 21   2/15/2009 at 11:24 (5,548 days old) by electron800 ()
Infact

I would suggest the Bosch Classixx WAE2416SGB. 6kg load so it's bigger than what they have now, 1200rpm "B" rated spin will be the same as they're used to, and it has about the best build quality and wash/rinse results for the price.

They may prefer a higher end Bosch, but I personally like to keep things simple :). Build quality will be the same throughout the range really.

Matt

Yes if it was for me i'd buy it from Mike, i was tempted for the silver 8kg aqualtis when he had it on offer, but unfortunately its not for me, a family friend and they just shop in currys and comet (no online shpping).

When i get my next machine i will definitely try to get a machine from Miekes website as its good with info and great prices.

John Lewis

I would recommend buying from John Lewis because in my experience, the customer service is superb and they often give a longer guarantee for no extra charge. If they haven't got it on the shop floor, they will order it in for you AND they will price match.

DON'T BUY THIS MACHINE!! On of my service users has one, it is only 4months old and we have had the engineer out 3 times. Also the OOB system is ridiculous....can take up to 25mins to do a final spin. A couple of other service users have Beko machines and they are not great.

I would recomend miele everytime, and you can get good deals if you shop around. My local comet had an end of line machine for £420 a few months ago.

Your local independant electrical dealers, whether it`s a Euronics retailer or family business...too many people rely on the C`s & KS`s of this world without exploring other options......I would also recommend Gorenje washing machines, usually found in independants, excellent prices along with functionality AND TWO year full parts & labour warranty....£339 gets you 1400rpm, 7kg Load...

I've always also liked the 2000rpm model, but it didn't get all the stains off in the gadget show and they use very little water compared to other machines. On the 2000rpm its 39l. If thats the case how long does it take to wash, i know the LG steam is quicker than the gorenje.

Mikes right. Don't discount the gorenje's! I Really wanted to get one but it was a little out of my price range. Don't worry about the low water levels, theres an override option for those of us who want proper rinsing results:-) They have some character and good options!

One of my friends on youtube Maturasigma has some good videos of his gorenje, one doing a high level rinse too!

Bosch Exxcel

My parents have one, 1400 rpm spin, three years old this spring.

A reasonable machine, but:

requires a concrete or stone floor to spin with least trouble, else it bounces about somewhat hellishly;

noisy water intake, motor noise noticable;

spin sequence doesn't always remove the water effectively - even on a level concrete floor.

Hey well, guess what........

We have finally came to a decision that my family friend wants a hoover again due to her past experience with them. So then she looked at a nextra and i said no so she goes its between the 8kg or 9kg. She goes i dont mind, i said get a 9kg and she said 1200 or 1400 or 1600. We ended up choosing 1400 as its cose o the old 1300 but better. She doesn't like digital washers and complicated washers so she'll always use the cottons 40oc and 60oc program unless her daughters or i go there when woolens or anything else needs washing. On the old machine she used the cottons 40oc for everything unless her daughters put the wash on for towels or bedding etc. She used cottons medium soiling 40oc. The old machines model is ae130.

Thanks. I might take a pic of it?... if i get the chance.

Quattro 'Easy Logic'

A friend of mine had one from 2001, either the 1300 or 1400rpm model. It seemed fine at first but a year or so in, it started to rattle on spin (I think it was the door-release Bowden cable that was slapping off the side of the machine).

It then developed screwy programmes: if you turned the knob too quickly, the 'spin alone' programmes became wash programmes! It took ages of twiddling and fiddling to get the programmes back in their proper places.

I also detested the Candy designed powder drawer. It had silly slots that allowed powder to trickle down onto the soapbox surround. Also, the fabric conditioner siphon never worked properly.

I preferred the operation of the previous 'New Wave' range.

But, give its due, the 'Quattro' had a more resilient door interlock peg; it was made of metal. The 'New Wave' had a troublesome plastic peg that wore down quite quickly.

Hey guess what everyone!

They got their new machine today, its the Hoover VHD862. First to rinse it out i put it on the 14 minute rapid and it took 15 minutes by count and it was great, the jumps on spin are quick, specially when it ramps up to 800 for rapid 14. Its 8kg 1600spin A+AA. They love it and they can fit louds of clothes towels etc in it, it can fit in 10 towels which are bath towels (big) and the old one only took 6.

They love it. What do you think of that machine?

You had the VHD8162 didn't you. Maybe they've improved it, this is the VHD862 and guess what. First load 10 big towels and coped perfectly well. On yours you didn't have the rapid 14 did you?
Thats a great program, i think it is a must on every machine. And the ramp to 8oo on spin is great, short but fast spin ramping.
Excellent washing and spinning results.
BTW- Someone took the old washer hoover ae130 in the 1st hour of it being outside. lol
