Hey Guys

I need some advice. I have the opportunity to purchase this centre dial Maytag A207 in mint condition here in Australia (and in my home town too!)and;

I need to know what you guys would offer for it....for us here in Oz, centre dials may seem fairly common for you guys to pick up,but you need to consider the following when thinking about a price:

1) Centre Dial Maytags were NEVER sold in Oz....this was a private import which came via Singapore and has been re-wired for our 240 Voltage.

2) The guy who has it is a washer repairer and has kept it covered and in mint condition for the past 15 years.

3) It is in excellent working condition and would probably be only a handful of these style Maytags in Australia.

So, with that in mind...what would you offer for it? I offered AU$200.00 (US $307.00) but he wants a fair bit more than that, so i said i would the experts (you guys!) and let him know.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers
Leon

Long Shot....another thing to keep in mind maybe as a comparison: think of a machine that you haven't been able to find and what you would you for it....?

Leon, Thats the age old question, presumably what a buyer wants to pay for it!!!couple of questions:

Did he see you advertisments & then contact you??
Do you get regular machines from him??
Is he an old contact??
Is it on open sale or just to you??

Could he be a great assett for old machines if you bought this 207 for His price??
I would have thought $200 currency of anybodys money would have been fine for this model...he thinks not, any idea what he does want?? double??

Good luck, Mike

I contacted him

mayfan69's profile picture
Hey mike,

No, i contacted him through another contact and went and saw what he has left. I was able to get some manuals from him....including a repair manual for a Wilkins Servis MK 72 front loader!! (he used to work for Wilkins Servis)

If i don't buy it, then he'll keep it himself. I think he wants AU$500.00 maybe....not sure.

He really doesn't have many machines left except a couple of "12" series Maytags that might be worth getting one day. He gave me the names of 2 other contacts...one which i went and saw this arvo.

Let him keep it for that much. I think your offer was generous.

Buy it!

This machine is almost identical to my childhood washer, except mine had a pilot light and a tan tub.

*WOW* that was the machine I grew up with sans the Permanent Press cycle.

It is a great machine and will probably outlive us all! But being that it is so unusual in Australia, there may be limited resale value. After all it's probably not triggering anybody's fond memories!

In my humble opinion....

I agree your offer is quite generous. If he really wants AU$500 for it, to me that is extremely high! Especially since it's a "lower" model. If it were an 806 with a lighted panel it might be closer to being justified, but who knows.

Ultimately it does really come down to just how badly you want it and what you are really willing to pay.

You can find those machines in the US for less than $25. Let him keep it at that price! If it was a TOL model, different story, but for a small tub, 3 temp machine.......no!

That is probably my favorite of the Maytags, I LOVE the simplicity of it and the smaller tub. The Maytag my baby-sitter had growing up was almost identical except it was a one speed machine with the automatic button!

May I request a video?

If the manufacutrer provided a 240v motor and electricals that is one thing. If "home-made" I'd be curious to see the agitation speeds and spin speeds.

240V

revvinkevin's profile picture
Yes... that's something I'm curious about too!

But I'm also wondering HOW they did the conversion. I would think they either changed out the motor, timer & water valves (and other switches?), or they wired in a voltage down-converter to drop the voltage from 240V to 110-120V. I'm pretty sure they were not built with a 240V option.

For the US, that is expensive. I rarely pick those up anymore, unless they are near mint.

It's hard to say what someone down under would pay, or what it would bring, it sounds to me like your offer was more than fair.

Mike:

Where have you been hiding these?

FABULOUS. I see you ARE a Maytag fan. How are your MAYTASKOs?

So is the 50hz verison of the dryer the same full wattage one would see here in the states? (5,000w +/- requiring a 30a line). Or does it have a lower wattage heating element as one would normally find in the UK and in Europe? If so what is that wattageline amerage requirement, please?!

Best regards,
Steve

Nice machines!

Do you know of any other Center-Dial sets over in the UK? I wonder what production numbers were...

Chestermikeuk: Beautiful A206 set. I grew up witht that washer in white. The only difference was that it had no light fixture.

Mayfan69: Yes you should by the A207. It is a very basic model just like the A206, and well worth it. The one I grew up with lasted 27 years.

Laundromat: The A206 and A207 models both have the same size tub. I will admit that the tub looks larger in the 206 perhaps due to the black agitator, which I realize now was it's coolest feature.

Have a good one,
James
