Out of anyone's reach. The F***ers scrapped it. They wouldn't even keep it around one day for me. I am afraid the days of great finds may be over for me. Things are so wierd, Several places I have been doing business with for years are cutting me off. All of a sudden they see my little shop as competition, and the door slams shut. I can't get machines, and my stock is quite low. Common parts are suddenly NLA. I am afraid my days in this business may soon be over. No worries though, Matt.

Matt,

Make friends with the haulers and junk men in your area. I've found that one or two $100.00 cash purchases are enough to keep them looking out for you. That way when and if the stupids throw their treasures away, you get a second chance at them.

Have you tried going out of your area for appliances? One place I've been dealing with about 16-17 years, is an hour away. Another place is a half hour drive. Anything local to South Bend is sewed up.

I still check C/L, get a few that way, still check the alleys on occasions, run ads in C/L. You also might make a deal with the competition. The place an hour away is a dealer who sells trade ins, but keeps only the best. They don't sell anything GE, so I get all that. I get the refrigerators covered in decals, or the B/D Whirlpools, or some of the other oddball stuff, like Amana they won't mess with.

Trade in's are still out there, sometimes you have to be creative.

I have been trying new places, and going farther, but the yield has been slim. I have worked with scrappers, but find them unreliable. I'll be fine though, I might just do vintage appliances, and turn my energies to a new business. matt

It's good that you have a plan, that's the first part of success!
