I am in the USA and am not really familiar with the machines you are asking about, but if you try searching on Youtube there are MANY washer videos on there. I would think you should be able to find video of the machines you are looking for. The link below is for a video on Youtube and while it's not the washers you are looking for, it is a video that Robert, the creator and webmaster of AW.org, made. I'm sure you will enjoy it! I just did a quick search in the forum archives and found this thread with some Bendix square door photos. Is this what you are looking for?

No holes in drum? How got the water out then when draining/spinning? |

In 1981 Servis UK, the only totally British Washing Machine manufacturer produced another unique first....the Servis spin care drum, this machine was developed extensively with proctor & Gamble and a new version of ariel Powder was introduced as well... The SpinCare Drum uses vanes rather like a spin dryer or a solid tub top loader, these are placed at the back & front of the drum....take a look, you can see the drum baffle & the slatted vanes.. |

Interesting. That construction is new for me. Did they claim any advantages over the more common perforated drum design? |

Hi Theo The SpinCare idea was that because the water didnt exit the drum as fast as loads of holes (re V-Zug v Miele honeycombe) that the washing was cushioned, and a more vigerous wash could be done on low level fill for cottons and a more delicate wash could be obtained for woollens / delicates as more water could cushion the clothes..all with less water than what was around at the time!! it was also thought to be gentler on the fabrics when spinning!! Morning Paul It is a lovely set, I first saw one at my Aunts, when nearly everyone else in the family had Servis MK2 twinnys, when you think Servis managed to make this still a 9lb load in 22 inches when other where 24 / 27 inches wide...solid little machine... |

occasionally got Servis machines in our shop back in the late '80's. They also did some interesting things with ramping up the spin speed, using a spring-tensions pulley to vary the ratio, didn't they? I am not quite sure about that, tho - long time ago and didn't see too many. That drum design worried my boss a lot, he felt they would do the same poor job with sand as the solid tub top loaders. How did they do with sand? I can well believe that they would have produced comparable washing results otherwise with less water and thus less energy for heating... Oh, and, welcome, by the way. Please don't limit yourself to only the UK postings - there are a lot of interesting vintage machines. Sometimes there are even new machines which are worth noticing, every 20 years or so...like the Dyson dual-drum. |
