Anyone know what year this ad is from?

Also, I had no idea UV germicidal lamps were being used in washers that long ago. Is there some reason these lamps aren't used in modern washers? UV light is a remarkably effective sterilizer.

UV light does not penetrate water very deeply-its blocked in less than a few inches of water.also the UV lights can be a hazard-the light should be made to shut off if the lid or door is opened.I guess on the older washers the light didn't shut off when the lid was opened.Water can also reflect the UV radiation into your face and eyes if you are the washer "spectator".The light could sunburn your face or damage your eyes. Its effectiveness would be limited in a washer.Would be better in a dryer. However does any Applianceville member have a washer with the UV light-does it make the optical brightners in the detergents flouresce-glow?

U V Lamps

I was wondering the same thing, cuz I've never seen any either. And I've seen MANY a machine.
My Aunt Bea had a Kenmore version of this washer, w/ suds saver when I was growing up. There wasn't any lights on it at all, that I remember. Maybe Gordan,(KenmoreGuy64)will chime in & shed some "LIGHT" on this, no pun intended, but hey; what the heck. ...Give me the good ole flourescent control panels anyday, and I'll be happy!LOL

I like that idea.

Seems to me it would be a great and effective addition to a TOL dryer, especially if they could mount it on the inside of the door(where the sensors are placed) so it shines light into the drum and away from any of us "spectators".
