Re: Electronic Touch Control Maytag's:

The Electronic Maytag's were being sold somewhere around mid to late 1980's and early 1990's. I've got the Literature on the whole line of that years Model's showing the Electronic Model's in White, instead of the Black Consoles. They also had the Uni-Stacked Washer/Dryer {with Top-Load Washer} around that time, with the Electronic Touch Controls and the Rear-Sliding Washer Lid too. I believe that the "TOL" Washer and the Uni-Stacked Washer had a Tub Light as well, besides the Dryers having Lights in the Drums.

Peace and Electronic Washing and Drying, Steve

I have 2 Maytag catalogs that show this washer. In a catalog dated 7/90 this is called "Heavy Duty A9900 Computer Touch Control-Two Speed", and in a catalog dated 5/92 it is called "Heavy Duty LAT9900 Computer Touch Control/Two Speed". Obviously, TOL.

Yes they were either

faulty with thier computer (which I have no evidence or knowledge of that) or too expensive. I know I had only seen them once or three or so times in applicance stores. Very expensive for a top loading Maytag. I have always wanted a set, and often think of these rare machines.

SactoTeddybear, you say your have litterature on them. I would love to see it.

Pulltostart, you say you have information as well? Would love to see it. Email me underseperate cover and see what we can come up with.

The digital models came out in 1990. Maytag changed the whole line-up this year with the all new black panel. It was also the end of the easy model number system. It was the start of the 10 digit model number system. The black panel stayed until 1994 when all but the bottom of the line changed to white. They now called it the "dependable care" models. The electronic control was made in white until late 1996 when dependable care 97 was introduced. This was when they changed to the slanted/rounded panel and introduced the "load-sensor". They have never had an electronic model since. (Top load that is) They are pretty rare. I think the washer retailed in the 700's.

2 sets

I once upon a time had 2 sets of these. They were awsome! They were not big sellers because of the price. The msrp on the washer was $899 and the dryer was $750 if I remember right. The set in the pic is the 9900. In 94 they changed it to a 9904. There were no major changes just grafics on the control panel, the tub opening was made bigger on the washer and the dryer door became reversible. This was also the begining of the flex12.

Those are certainly neat looking control panels! I've always like vaccum fluroescent screens like this washer has. Very "star-wars" looking !

The last time I was @ Circuit City before they got out of major appliances, there was a Maytag TL digital set on the floor. The washer had power, I put it into spin, then is suddenly went dead. Methinks a salesdroid got pissed and pulled the plug, LOL.
