Not a suds saver, but still a great A806. I don't see the button or the marking on the dial.

I have this same machine in same color.

This was taken before it was cleaned up.

Exactly like grandmas 806 :) Then the dumb bitch left the 806 set when she moved in 2003 because she wanted a white colored set. I warned her, but she had to learn the hard way (MUCH complaining about destroyed clothes not coming clean in the new Kenmore DD immediately followed). Everything was original on both those machines, all the way down to the belts. GRRRR!!!

If they were anything but a vintage Maytag set (or a low end Maytag set) "silly woman" would suffice. But mint 806's that probably hit the crusher within weeks, if not days, after the house sold......the term "Bitch" becomes an absolute necessary :)

If there is supposed to be a cover over the tub light? The light was burnt out, however, when I reached my hand up there, I could feel the light bulb.
What type bulb do these machines take?
Obviously, the back panel lights up just fine.
Also has the chrome strip on the front. I was told that there was a matching dryer, but it died years ago. Next to it sits a brown panel BOL...just a push to start switch.
Can't wait to get this new Maytag.

Hint: Inches, not centimeters.

Another look.

24 expected, 17 delivered.
Luckily it's the thick kind and not the thin version.

Regardless, it does it's job well.

Mounting brackets take up the extra space.

So as we took the rest of her top off to scrub the nooks and crannies, we noticed the missing "lens cap" for the tub light.

The incadescent lamp (light-bulb) for the tub had burnt out.

Got a new 110v 25w bayonette style bulb; $1.89 investment. NADA

Post# 338435 , Reply# 48   3/28/2009 at 21:08 (5,505 days old) by toggleswitch2 ()

Never dawned on me that the tub light is normally illuminated when the lid is open, and the machine is powered when the lid is closed.

This a job for a single-pole double-throw toggle switch!

Can't tell if the lid switch was already defeated (doesn't appear to be or brokem in the "machine opearting" posotion.

I'm not complaining.

Replaced the wimpy 25w bayonette lamp-holer with a candelabra-base 1/8" (nigh-light size) lamp holder and put in a hefty 40w bulb/lamp!

Post# 338444 , Reply# 49   3/28/2009 at 21:16 (5,505 days old) by toggleswitch2 ()
Keyless means swtich-less. I had to read the Spanish portion

Didja notice that the filament is sagging and paritally shorting itself out? Oh yes honey. Plugged in the machine and *POP* the bulb went. Some of the resistance was lacking. The base of the lamp partially melted and the lamp socket was ruined as well.

Luckily there were two sockets/lamp-holders per pack!

I went over the wiring diagram three times, out of fear and intimadation. Turns out all was well-wired. The lamp itself was screwy and was the problem.

Just as well. Much prefer the wires through rather than outside the *GULP* (electrical, threaded) nipple-ring.

Sin Interruptor => Spanish *No switch*. English => mother at

Lampholder.

Didn't use the paper cover. Duct tape over electical tape!

"Keyless" means "No switch". Had to read it in Spansih to understand that!

You must be at least this tall (popints) to ride this ride.

All this due to some dicing and splicing!

Took the wire from the lid-switch to the tub-light and re-directed it to the black lead from the fluorescent light to the timer.

Do you see the red, black and white wires joined at the wire-nut and going into the timer via a slide-off terminal connection?

...and it worked like a charm!

THANKS FOR TAKING THIS RIDE!

I'm loving this main "normal" cycle/programme!

Since I'm in charge of "Whitest whites" here, in this (gary's)house this will help.

Prewash of 4 minutes. (Allows hot, warm or cold water).
Drain & spin.
Re-fill.
Brief agitation.
Soak.
Agitation (10 minutes, maximum)
Long pause. [Between phases requiring reversal of motor direction].
Drain & spin.
Spray (flush) rinse. One minute
Fill for rinse.
Deep rinse with 3 minutes of agitation.
Long pause. [Between phases requiring reversal of motor direction].
Drain & spin.

Of course all I need to do is wait until the main fill to add bleach, and add a second rinse for beautiful whites!

That and phosphates and we're the envy of the local haus-fraus (housewives).

:-)

Now to figure out how to add a heater to make a boil-washer.
Send ideas to my e-mail. LOL!

Gary was absolutley amazed that when we washed the rags that we had used, they gathered on one side of the tub, but the machime would not go out of balance and completed teh cycle successfully. I don't remember my mother's A206 of 1965 EVER go OOB.

It struggled a bit to get ot full speed at spin, but that was due to the motor carriage/trolley needing a shot of lubricant...WD40.

FUN MACHINE, and TOL in its day. YAY.

P.S. I had to laugh at the Gadget testng the machine running a cycle, and asking he daughter of the deceased a million quesions. Honey, at the price he got it, take it and RUN!

As he was removing the front panel to inspect, the seller freaked-out thinking there would be water everywhere! HA!

Congrats on the great washer. If you wanted light, why didn't you try to put one of those halogen lights from the torchiere lamps in it? It'd kill two birds with one stone here: plenty of light and you'd end up with your 'hi-temp' wash for the whites. It'd also do your tan some good too. HEY! Bonus! LOL

Still, that is a great model and the only thing better would be the matching dryer and those were common enough that one will show up. That's the only draw back with my new wringer: no matching dryer... :^)

YES!!

Wrapping a bungee cord puts too much of a load on the motor. Also, when it comes time for the spin cycle, the motor carriage needs to shift forward to allow belt slippage.

Use Polylube on the tracks. It won't gum up over time, even after 30 years.

No bungy cord?

So do you think that the WD 40 made the agitation slow? It worked perfectly before the squirt of WD 40.
With the bungy cord, agitation was perfect.
Suggestions?

The white lithium grease on the tracks should solve the problem?

WD40

There seems to be a big misunderstanding about WD-40. It's a water displacement (hence WD), NOT a lubricant. Lithium grease will work for the tracks but overtime will turn pasty, then hard. If one keeps on top of cleaning the old stuff and applying new grease, it should be fine.

Another hint

Someone from the club told me to try to remove the WD 40 with rubbing alcohol. This should help the belts stop slipping since the machine worked perfectly before the application of WD 40.

Matching Dryer

Does anyone have the matching dryer to this washer?
Can anyone scan a brochure with specs of the dryer?

Thanks

You can but it separately (204999), but it also comes with a glide and spring kit (205000) which I would recommend if you haven't replaced those items yet.

Hmmmmm

gadgetgary's profile picture
Machine worked perfectly before the application of WD-40.
After application, wash motion was slow.

Tried to wipe some off with rubbing alcohol.
This morning's wash action was ok with no clothes, slow with clothes. Perhaps I need to replace the belts.

Got the belt today

gadgetgary's profile picture
Kit came with two belts, rollers and springs.
Put on the new belts.....agitation still slow.

Called the appliance repair store. Told me the tension was off(worked fine when the motor was pulled back). Told me an old trick years ago was to stretch one of the springs onto the grey frame. Should make the agitation good again. Tried that and it worked perfectly. This weekend, will try to change the springs.
