Nah other than the principles, like a slow long stroke, they're totally different.

i was looking at parts for the new speed queen, motor and trans, the description says it fits speed queen, amana and maytag models. i was wondering b cuz i know maytag owned amana which had the same design machine as the new speed queen.

Raytheon sold Speed Queen to Alliance in '98 ish. Alliance then sold the home appliance division to Maytag. This included Amana. Under the agreement Alliance was not able to market home use machines for a period of time giving Maytag/Amana that market. Maytag continued to use the Speed Queen platform for some time and then changed the transmission to a Norge design. When limitations expired on the agreement Alliance was again able to market home use machines. Of course staying with the original SQ platform.

So you could get the Speed Queen and Amana made by Raytheon, then by Alliance and then Amana by Maytag.

Now the confusing part is when you actually order parts for the machines. Unless you specify Speed Queen by Alliance when giving a part number most of the top loader parts will come up under Maytag/Whirlpool. Even more confusing is when you open the box that says FSP Genuine Replacement Part which is packaged in a Maytag box which contains a bag that says RSPC Genuine Replacement Part Alliance Laundry. And yes, we have received parts like that.

And there are several appliances that were made by Amana that Maytag has no records, parts lists or any other information about.

In short, that is the history......eh, maybe not so short.
