Can anyone help in finding a lens cover for my new aquisition?

I tried my local appliance repair, but they cannot find one in their stock. If anyone has one, I am willing to buy it from you.

Thanks,

GG

Hey Gary -

I checked my stash of parts last night and came up short. Sorry about that!

Thanks for your help.

I have called several companies and the part is NLA. What is the danger of running the machine without the lens cover?
Would the light bulb pop during the cycle if the water splashed on it?

Why don't you try a sign making business where they custom cut plexiglass? If you brought the tub cover with you, they might be able to measure the oval opening and cut a clear plexiglass piece to fit.

Since the lens cover is NLA anywhere(Thank you Mr. Eric-LOL, I wracked my brain thinking how I could make one.
Ding!Ding!Ding!
Make a template.
You know those so-called disposable food storage containers that you buy in the grocery store.....they go in the microwave too.

That is what I used to make a lens cover for my new Maytag 806

No danger

Not near the bulb, keeps it dry and even when the washer goes totally off balance, the lens cover stays put.

Changed the belts too. Spring was pretty bad.

Washer agitates and spins like it should now.

Glad to hear the Maytag is functioning up to par! Nice "out of the box" thinking with the modified lens cover.

Much needed advice

gadgetgary's profile picture
The Maytag is having a slight leaking issue when washing a full tub. There is a very minor water leak during spin by the area where the front label starts(on left of label), and a slight leak where the tub ring is screwed together.
There was a bad rust spot on the other side of the label and I seemed to have repaired it with Mighty Putty.
Any other suggestions(epoxy, silicone, etc), to stop that minor leak? During the entire cycle, it might leak perhaps 1-2 tbsp of water.

Pray that the outer tub lip isn't badly rusted. I have a spot on the outer tub of my 806 that's is rusted and probably can't be repaired. Sucks because the outer tub has been NLA since 2002 and only the early 806's and 906's with the timed bleach dispenser used that tub. I'll probably have to use the common outer tub from another machine from a 06-12 series machine :(

Back around 1998, I was driving a 1986 Chevy Caprice Classic. There was a problem with a leak in the fuel tank. I took it to a local garage, and they said that they would rebuild the existing tank, rather than order a new one. The tank was badly rusted. What they did, was send the tank in for a special vinyl coating. They essentially used the tank as a mold, to make a new one. And when they reinstalled it, they included a lifetime warranty. I drove it for another couple years, with no problems with leaks since.

I'm thinking, perhaps the same can be done for the Maytag's outer tub. I would check some of the auto repair centers, and see if that option may be available. It's worth a try at least, and this could save a few perfectly good Maytags.

If I could find somebody willing to mold and make me another tub (I would demand to have the mold back!!) I would be in heaven!!! Unfortunately, around my area I doubt I could find anyone willing to do it. Sadly, it seems like the older generation who knew and are (were) willing to carry out tasks like this, are either retired or dead.

Dumb question - how tight are the two screws? The band and screws almost look in too good of shape to be original.

What do you mean? Do you think the band is just loose?

I tried a clear silicone today on the leaking areas and am letting it 'cure' for 24 hours.

The screws should be very tight. I take a good size pliers and hold the clamp while using a large straight blade screw driver to tighten them.

After the curing process has completed, make sure that both screws are tight (one of the front side, pictured, and then there should be another one 180 degrees opposite.)

Hopefully the rust hasn't take too much of a toll.
