Wow!! I have never seen a Lady Kenmore washer of that style with more than 2 settings knobs. Kenmoreguy64, What do you know about that machine?

That's a pretty common machine actually (I will admit to having three of them right now). It is a 1983 Lady K model, which was widely available from 1983 through 1986.

The design with the three knobs came about in 1979 or so, when two formerly separate knobs were combined into one. Prior to, there had been a soak selector knob (soak on or off) and a second rinse knob (second rinse on or off).

The new switch accomplished both functions, but I have to say it made the panel look "off balance" with two knobs on one side and one on the other.

There was a '79 version of this machine, an '80, an '81 and an '83 (no '82). The first three years they did not include the triple dispenser. All led up to the 1983 Lady K, pictured above, which was the first mechanical timer Lady since the mid to late 70s. The electronic machines had become the Limited Editions.

The machine apparently sold like hotcakes (everything in Kenmore's line did in the mid 80s) and was one of the last machines available when the belt-drive line was closed.

Not to rain on Matt's parade, but here's my Lady. I got it back in the winter, free, from Craigslist. VERY nice mechanically underneath, but it had been used on well water and the supply hoses to the detergent dispenser were completely clogged with black minerals. The pump was locked tight, and the dispenser lid, because it was not getting water, was completely blocked off with white duck tape! It took me as long to rectify that as it did some of the machine rehab.

The beautiful white basket had two BBs rusted stuck into the perfs on the tub bottom. It was interesting getting them out!

This past weekend when I got the GreenBeast water tested, Lady here was tested as well. Tested OK until the detergent dispenser was turned off by the timer. BRAND NEW pump leaked so much it had four solid streams of water billowing out of it - not even trickles, streams! I also found out that the hose underneath the dispenser that floods the softener side is clogged too, so that's this weekend's job - another new pump and a roto-rooter for the hose.

Here's the white basket. They were not very common in the 80s, not like in the 60s anyway.

I have a new dispenser lid for this machine - the tape residue turned the old one cream color.

My grandmother had that top pair. I had forgotten about the "Soft Heat" logo with the swan.

Rain on my parade a bit Gordon, I love your expertise. Personally, I don't like the "new" look of the tub and agitator, especially with such a nice faceplate. But, I suspected these were some of the last belt drives, especially LK's. They do make a nice couple though. We'll see how they pass closer inspection....matt
