made some lovely things in the 60's

Here is the set of hotplates that I bought on Ebay to replace my mothers identical 1968 set which has started to fail...these are in better condition and work beautifully according to the chap who was ripping the kitchen out.

Awesome!

Great Scans!
Thank you!
The only thing that comes into my mind besides great appliances, is very sexy and modern advertising!
Thanks for sharing your brochures!
This is awesome!
I have never seen a scan for their window unit air-conditioners!
Fun!
Thanks
Brent

i had that "flair"

double oven with the "panoramic" glass doors that lifted up to open. it was built in and was the double oven model, one big oven, one small oven. i pulled it out once to do a repair and sure enough it said "1962" on the back!

THEN 2 YEARS AGO WHEN I SOLD THE HOUSE I LEFT THAT OVEN IN THE GARAGE IN A TRASH PILE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I AM STILL KICKING MYSELF OVER BEING THAT STUPID TO THIS DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

i had loved that oven before it came out of the kitchen and it had set in my garage a few years. i did not know of "automaticwasher.org yet nor had i started my collection!

DAMN THAT WAS DUMB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That Custom Imperial washer/dryer set is the one my parents had in white. At night those lighted control panels would really light up a room.
Is that model(WCI-62) considered particularly rare and hard to find?

Not so much back then, but VERY hard to come by in the last decade and a half. By the mid 80's, parts for GM Frigidaire washers (and probably dryers) skyrocketed in price and then quickly became NLA. Most owners didn't want to bother with expensive hard to find parts, plus trying to track down a tech who could even repair them, so they got tossed in favor of something new (or something else). Repairing Frigidaire washers are not for the faint of heart!

WOW Sam, thanks so much for posting those neat pictures. It is so sad that today we can't go out and buy appliances like those with such beautiful styling and quality!!

Dan:

Thanks for the explanation about these washers. Too bad they are rare. I've only done very minor repairs on a washer, so I think I would be in over my head if I had to repair one of these.
I still think those WCI-62's were some of the most beautiful washers ever made. I can still smell the newness of them when my parents first bought them.

I just sold a flair on Thursday. Friday my wife calls me from her work and tells me she spotted a near mint flair in the corner of their warehouse. Her first find, and it's a flair! Now that is a woman!

I will always like the design, advertising, verbage and artistic drawings FRIGIDAIRE used to sell their fabulous appliances!"Bring your dreams---and husband to your nearest FRIGIDAIRE dealer!" Let me tell you,had I ever decided to take my husband to my nearest FRIGIDAIRE dealer, there would have been qite a "Flair" up!

The '62 was the first year of the "big-tub" and that combined with the three-ring made for a great washer. I have a '63 WCI ( a gift from Hans) that took a week of work to get in decent shape. Hard water deposits had created a "mat" all along the bottom of the outer tub and trapped moisture had rusted huge holes through the outer tub. Lots of JBWeld and Por-15!
All the work was worth it, though, as the machine works fine now.

The MultiMatic mechanism can be tough to work on. Just the mention of the name causes Gansky to hurl invectives.

The machines from the early sixties are hard to come by, so I don't think GM's attempt at building a "Sturdy" washer worked very well.

I have the Custom Imperial washer & dryer set in white. I have an extra DCI-62 dryer plus a DI-62 dryer. C'mon over sometime soon. I'm back in town again (at least for a while).

I'm always grateful to all of you who scan and post vintage brochures/catalogues. So much more convenient than the real things. This brochure also helps me understand how one can integrate pink appliances into a reasonably good looking room.

Thanks for posting those photos. Just as I remembered my parents set. You can read at night by those lighted control panels, I have never seen any brighter on any other machine.

Tell us the history of how you came to own these machines. I am sure we would enjoy hearing that!

Thanks for sharing those! Just imagine what it must have been like to have a showroom full of those appliances... SIGH...
The 'clamshell' washer and dryer are so neat!
Actually, something in the ads is on its way to me... Should have it by the end of the month!
