What size magnet do you need to bypass the lid switch on a plastic GE washer. I have tried a couple of sizes and nothing seems to work. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I just unscrew the magnet from it's place beneath the lid and place it on the magnetic square piece that sits in the top part of the lid opening.

You should be able to buy a magnet that is strong enough at a hardware store. It requires a pretty strong magnet, not necessarily one you'd find on your fridge. I would recommend wrapping it a couple times in some duct tape so you don't accidentally scratch the paint.

Or, you could bust open a hard drive and.....

Or just order a spare

If you can't find something from a hardware store to work, just order a spare from an appliance parts store. The part number for the magnet is WH12X10276, and is priced on the GE website at $5.50. Probaby can be bought for less at a local store.

i hate to post anything nasty, filty, or immoral but a while back I was working on a ladies washing machine and found a rather strong magnet stuck on the back of this machine. i showed it to my wife and she fell out laughing and told me to throw it away. she said it was sold in sex shops and was called a bullet. New one on me but listen, that magnet is so strong it works perfect on your application. no, I'm not suggesting hed off to your nearest sex shop but that is one strong magnet my friend. LOL.
