To look at the inner workings. Clean as a whistle?

This machine does work, but it can certainly use some new gaskets and seals, given its age. Since the previous owner had this hooked up to a regular washing machine hose on the hot water line, the original portable spigot assembly is missing. For that reason, I improvised a temporary setup for testing. I found that the back of the lid won't seal completely, and it appeared that there was some drips coming from under the chassis. The motor and pump are strong. It will fill, pump, and drain accordingly. Apparently, the water level is controlled by the timer. The rinse aid and detergent dispensors are functioning correctly.

It appears that it could use some work on the wiring and there is a sheet inside the back cover that shows the schematics. I was able to get it to run the short cycle, but the others wouldn't engage. I'm assuming it could be either a relay or switch some place; possibly a simple repair but who knows.

Inside, I vacuumed any cob webs and dust I saw. There was no grease or grime evidenced, so I assume the transmission (if it has one) is perfectly fine. It should service without too much difficulty. I will submit more photos as soon as I am able.

appliancelou: I found the dishwasher while searching Craigs List. The lady had it listed for several weeks and must not have recieved any response. She wanted it gone, so I was able to take it off her hands in exchange for some money to buy groceries. She told me that she was otherwise going to take it to the dump, who would have charged her a fee. Needless to say, she was happy and I was elated!

OMG, Incredible. Are there cyle buttons? Can yo utake apic close up of the front timer knob as well as the cycle buttons?

No timer knob, only cycle buttons.

Sorry for the crude photo, as my camera is lousy at closeups. The cycles are fully controled by push buttons on top of the console, with each light below representing how the load is progressing. They are as follows, from left to right:

"Cycle Changer", "Light Wash", "Short Wash", "Normal Wash", "150 Degree Wash" (in red).

hey norfolk!

i would be concerned mostly with the leakage under the cabinet. it could be the motor seal or possibly something else. my kd5 top loader was leaking around the water inlet to the tub and some simple silicone adhesive fixed that problem. i would pull off back panel or whatever panel will allow you to view machine running with water in it. if you see a leak coming from the pump area or anywhere on or directly by the motor i would not use it again until it is fixed.

there is no transmission per say, just a motor shaft up thru the top of the motor into the pump that the lower and upper impellers connect to. the water seal is under the lower impeller. from the pic it looks like the same pump as all my d&m machines have used but i could be wrong, this one is old!

but parts should be available on the web. i will find my records of where i recently bought my seal kit for my sears roto rack and email you with their web address.

fill is controlled by timer but there could be a float in tub altho i don't see one in pic. but it is a timed fill. there could be a water pressure switch like kitchenaids used but i doubt it, never seen a d&m with anything other than a float switch in tub to prevent overfill in case of a timer problem.

the only relay will be the motor start relay and by all means do not run motor unless machine is in upright position. i burned up the motor on my first hotpoint at age 12 by trying to run it while it was tipped on it's side. motor relay could not work in that position and start windings could not disengage so i fried it! ofcourse i bought a new motor but still.....

i would def make sure no leaks before you tackle any other issues, if it leaks into motor it will ruin bearings! maybe not the first time but over time motor will be be destroyed, at least by my experience. those bearings don't take to water very well! it's a very easy rebuild! i can help you if you like, i am doing one now on my sears roto rack.

you can always e mail me directly at soberleaf@yahoo.com.

also you might pick up a sink connector from somneone here, possibly "everythinggold" i know for a fact he has a boat load of stuff!

good luck and enjoy it but get that pump running with no leaks before you let her rip!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, Soberleaf.

I sent you an email, and am looking forward to your response. And I made sure to fully drain the machine after its last use, so it's completely dry.

I have also been in contact with everythingold, and he seems to have a keen interest in what I am doing. I have been following his advice very closely, as I want to insure this dishwasher's best possible preservation. I don't plan on starting any work until I am fully informed and assured that any repairs I do will be successful.
