Thanks every so much

That is the model/ got 2 of them thru Innkeepers Supply in Memphis.. In mid 60S ONe of the finest machines and most durable EVER made.Is is machines like that that made MIlnor famous, Theres a many of the balcom in shirt laundries all over the world. A lot of the 60s in hotel and hospitals too. Many still running. Uniwash/ unimac makes people think they were so wonderful with the spray rinse thru the door. they just stole it from Milnor that did it 1st

It looks as though the cloths would be a hard reach at the bottom, given the size of that hatch. How did these big machines load and unload?

balcom spray rinse

yes, Milnor had it first....but they never said it was a "substitution" for a bath rinse as Unimac has and does.

The balcom spray rinse was used mainly as the basket was decelerating from an intermediate extract, with the drain open...to "enhance rinsing" and wetdown.

As you might guess, I know some Unimac guys that will state clearly that under certain water conditions that spray rinse can make the goods/work in the cylinder act as "a coffee filter".

I know chemical reps that refuse to program the door water valve for anything other than filling the cylinder.

Unimac literature states you can skip a rinse by using a spray rinse, the basket being driven at high speed while the water is on. Literature suggests that this operation be programmed for 2-3 mins "split". This can send up to 40-50 gallons of water down the drain, yet you have forgone a high level rinse.

it really looks built like a tank !

I'm very curious .... :-))

- How longer is the machine lifespan having the 3-pocket design vs the open pocket one ?

- What about Dexter machines ??

The Milnor above was a 2 pocket workhorse.

super easy and quick to laod and unload turnaround time could be less than 3 mins. if you had a good washman. No other machine can do that.. Just the right size and the right height. Loads would actually "slide out" with very little effort.. Troy had a machine they did call a "slide Out" it was 2 or 4 pockets but it need a lot of help

Trok 99]
I too know of many places where the UniMac spray rinse cannot be used as it does act just like a filter and all the crud in the water goes right on the linen and talk about nasty looking work.. Even know of 1 hotel that had to buy all yellow sheets to cover up all the yellow in the linen the spray rinsed caused. a spray rinse can never be used in place of a deep rinse. No matter what they say. a short one can assist as Milnors did but not take place of.

loading.....you just cramed it in, unloading a rake was used to be fast

hydro- cushin( soft mount ) versions of this machine are very popular to this day..opening the door is very hunt for red october

yes, there were 2 pocket and 3 pocket versions.....MAF is dependant on lift and drop, only, no ribs

there are certain situations where a MILTROL chart is progressive over a microprocessor

i can put a miltrol chart machine into manual and have it do whatever i want

Agreed The Miltrol

Is Still the perfered control by most Laundry Managers. if good programming is done is can handle 4 or 5 different formulas itself.. depending on where it is started.. I do remember the " Start Lines" on the old models I had, Had 1 long formula or 4 different shorter ones.. Took care of every need we had with NEVER a problem from it. The old 25 and 35 lbs models with the "extend a matic "timer was wonderful too. as you could extend any phase with just the turn of the timer.. Just wonderful controls.

Hmmm...The only thing missing from this thread is The Big Question: "So, will it hold a king-size comforter?"

Miltrol

When I cut a chart for a nursing home or anywhere where I know pads/diapers will be processed.....I will cut is as follows;

on a 5 compartment supply system, the operator would load it as the situation(formula)called for. when using automatic supplies, the chemical company will control the supplies on their end when the operator selects the correct formula on the chemical controler

in the following example; there are 4 temperature switches;
hot/cold/thermo 1/thermo 2

thermo 1 and 2 are just what we know as Auto temp control, and can be adjusted at any time to be whatever you want them to be. When any temp is set to "in" that tells the machine to "use" that temp, versus what's called for on the chart

below, I set thermo #1 to be 110 degrees for controled rinses, I could set thermo #2 to be 95 degrees to override the chart when washing personals, colors or blankets and spreads

each can be commanded "off" "in"...which is "on" or "formula"....which means follow the chart

2 min/ flush/ split/ high level - start point for pads
1 min drain
2 min/ flush/ thermo 1/ high level -
1 min drain
6 mins/ break/ hot/ low level/flush supply #1, alk- start point for other heavy soil work
1 min drain
8 min/ suds/ hot/ low level/flush supply #2, soap- start point for medium soil work
1 min drain
8 min/bleach suds/ hot/low level/flush supply #2, soap and #3, bleach- start point for light soil work, bleach bath for normal work, carry over for non-bleach work
1 min drain
2 min/ rinse/hot/ high level
1 min drain
1 min intermediate extract
2 min/ rinse/ thermo 1/ high level
1 min drain
1 min intermediate extract
4 min/finish/ thermo 2/ low level/flush supply #3, sour and #4, soft or blue or starch or iron out or anti-clor or a combo of them
1 min drain
7 min final extract

any step can be lengthened by moving the master switch to manual or shortened by advancing the chart
