Had a visit from QSD_DAN today. He got to drool over the CDE906 and then I turned him loose in the haulaway pile. Talk about bugged out eyes! Since he was in a sedan, he decided to strip a LA712 for parts to use with his collection...

Dan, that's a very nice early A606! You interested? I've been trying to call... And yes, she even has the shipping lockring.

Ever wonder what an appliance stripping locust would do?

This is what QSD_DAN DIDN'T take... When asked if there was anything else he wanted to part out from the machines in the back, the reply was 'Heck yeah! But I'm finally starting to run out of room!' He even had to have the model/serial tag. Something about a 'trophy wall' of tags from machines he's killed... LOL! Still, I always enjoy a visit from a club member passing thru my little part of the world.

I don't blame ya Dan one bit - that base plate looks MINT hiding in the cardboard! Some are better to be sacrificed to save another. Looking forward to seeing what you are gonna do with these big load parts... hehe.

Your hallway Andrew looks very familar to a similar scene at the local appliance store. The regular 12 and later series machines, with the mix of Amana/Norge/Neptune! Let me guess, bearing or motor failure?

Man it must be great to live in another state.......i swear......if you want something nice down here you have to truck it in from somewhere else! I can't ever seem to find anything other than "Vintage" or "Anteek" DD Shredmores.........NO THANKS!

Not to mention....

How about "anteek ringer washers"? Stupid is, as stupid does when some idiot tries to save one of those, while passing on a Frigidaire that's actually worth something!

There seems to be quite a number of those 80's Maytag dependable care machines in the pile. What usually goes wrong with those?

A lot of them are 'small' tubs. Some have oil leaks, others are victims of bad dampers. A couple are nothing really wrong other than the lady of the house wanted one of those 'pretty' chrome covered front loaders...

Wow, People sure are wasteful , I know for a fact most of these machines CAN BE REPAIRED - Notice the beautiful side by side frigs - Even if they need new compressors they would still be worth the repairs , Sickening.

So-called "antique" DD Whirlpools

Orbital Maytags are still common these days, and it's the same with direct drive Whirlpools and Kenmores (which are still in print). But, there will come a day when they end up like the Frigidaire 1-18's; rare to find and very few in good working condition due to the scarcity of parts. Much of this is due, I'm sure, to the ever increasing value of scrap metal and other commodities, to be made into new Toyotas and electric hybrid cars and HE appliances that meet new energy mandates.

As you all probably know, I currently have a DD KitchenAid for a daily driver. Lately, I have shown very little, if any, respect for that machine. This is in spite of its good reliability after I replaced the mixer valve, courtesy of everythingold. Matt recently told me that my disrespect for that machine is going to come back and bite me 'till I start bleeding. After seeing what's available at the appliance shops and reading some consumer articles, this I'm sure will slowly sink in. It always does when you bash something around, and regret it later.

My research indicates that the shiny blue LG steam washers won't flush out sand and heavy dirt or rinse as well as a shredmore made in 1992. It just can't be done with a teaspoon of water! And people are complaining of skin irritation due to the HE detergent residue left on clothing, along with the strong mold buildup they can't seem to get rid of. The appliance salesman will deny this every time, of course. It's quite obvious that they are pushing these front loaders and HE top loaders like a drug dealer sells crack. I'm starting to get the idea that treating my KitchenAid a little better now could avoid a very unpleasant purchase later.

To add to what NorfolkSouthern said, notice the lack of DD Wirlpools in that lot of stuff. There's a Neptune and Atlantis, neither of which sold in the numbers or as early as DD Whirlpool and Kenmore, but none of those are there.

They get no respect, but everybody or their mom has one, and they just work.

Does that Atlantis have the two wheels in the drum? What is wrong with the machine pictured above?

That beige side-by-side looks identical to the one that was our daily driver for ten years. It now resides in the rec room, where it has the important duty of keeping our beer and bulk fruit and veggies cold. It's still cranking away. The only thing I've ever had to do to it is work on the ice maker a couple of times.

yeah, I have a kenmore 1988, 27 cu ft side x side, LIMITED EDITION, with drop down door on fridge side and ice, water, and digital controls on the freezer....never a problem except the water line in the freezer door for the dispenser has dried out and cracked...can't bring myself to get rid of it...I love it and can't find one like it with all the features this machine has...but this little four foot hose cost 115.00 from sears...I will figure a way to get this hose re-runned to see how long this puppy will last...but the same issue is are the other little hoses drying out too...and a major strip down to pull all them out and replace....may eventually be put in the garage for extra soda and veggies...but will do it kicking and screaming the whole way...they don't make them like that anymore...

I would've taken the hole A606 if I was there and my parents allowed more than one of a certain apliance in the house.

That is so awesome. I love seeing someone drive away with 600 lbs of pure enjoyment spread between the back-seat and trunk! :-D

Reminds me of when Ben and I shoehorned the '60 top-loader into the back seat of the Cadillac (coupe!) :-P Or who was it that managed to stick a Norge washer in the trunk of his friend Carmine's Newport? ;-)

Roto204, when I bought my Kenmore 24" DD portable and Whirlpool 110v dryer, I drove home 30 miles with both of them in an Oldsmobile 98. The dryer was in the trunk with the lid tied down and the washer was in the front seat with me. It was so tight that I had to roll the front door window down so that the casters on the washer wouldn't break the window or scratch the tint. My dad and I once brought a new water heater home in the back seat of another 98, and that one wouldn't have fit if it was more than about an inch bigger in any dimension!

Who needs a truck?
