Well, hubby was indulgent enough to allow me to move the latest Frigidaire find into the kitchen for a real wash test. The thought of running hot water supply pipes out the garage suddenly no longer appealed to him...
So, the new interloper doesn't look too out of place in 'turquosie town'...

Inside close-ups

Still amazed at how nice this is inside! Definitely did not get used much at all!
Here's a close-up of the pop-up strainer:

And the bottom strainer plate, taken off the pop-up filter:

Bottom of the strainer. The picture doesn't do it justice - it is a shiny as a new dime!

Time for a wash test!

So, let's load it up! I ran a set of dishes, pans, and glasses that I am giving my niece through to freshen them up. An easy first test, but I know nothing about how to rack dishes properly in a Frigidaire of this vintage. Top rack was loaded like this:

Bottom rack was a breeze to load! I followed the illustrations from some advertising literature that I have for Frigidaire dishwashers.

And the last of the Electrasol

was used in this cycle!

No pictures of the results, alas! I seem to have lost them from my camera memory card... D'OH!!
But everything came out squeaky clean, nothing broke, and the dishwasher was much quieter with dishes in it. The real test will be this coming weekend - I'll run some really dirty dishes through it.
Then, I will have to figure out what to do with this machine. My current thought is still to build a cabinet on wheels around it - a retro-fitted dishmobile of sorts..
I don't know much about the performance of these dishwashers, but I must admit that I like the 'purges' that take place between the end of a wash or rinse and the next fill and wash part of the cycle.
I'll be watching for more posts on loading these babies, too!
Vintage dishwashers rock!!!

Paul, for not knowing how to load this machine, you did an excellent job. I like the pretty colorful glasses. Tell you niece that Visions sells on Ebay nicely. I actually still use mine. Chuck & Rich, ya should have saved the silverware baskek from your Frigidaire so Paul could have the proper original flatware basket.

Oh, I know!! I saw that post about the 'curb alert' in MA... Curse Ma Bell for not being able to provide internet service out in the boonies!

Great looking dishwasher Paul

Some friends of the family had one of these models in the kitchen of their small motel/lodge in Forsyth, Missouri back in the early 70's. I was so curious about this dishwasher, but I don't think that they used it much, if at all. I'd like to have one of these in my collection as well one of these days. Mike

That is a great looking dishwasher. It looks like you get more in the bottom rack than I can with my Whirlpool portable.

I might be able to get maybe 1/2 a BobLoad in my Whirlpool. Those stupid cones in the middle of each rack are a pain to work around.

Beautiful!

Gorgeous machine! I would love to see more pictures!

It looks like you swing that puppy around so that it is facing the GE stove and extend the Island over it. Have some cabinetry built around it and a new counter-top + a little plumbing and electric - You would be set. Dual dishwashers make cleaning after dinner a breeze and if well executed one can simply take clean dishes from one, set the table for dinner and after place the dirty dishes in the other.

you have a very beautiful dishwasher

so unique! very excited for you! and remember, larry might have some parts if you need them, i know he has a pump and motor complete.

i agree with mike (dishwashercrazy), i would love to find a spin tube machine also for my collection some day. but for now we can look at your pics and drool!

who cares if it cleans well, i never worry about that. i collect them for their nostalgia, some are better than others but they all have an important part in american appliance history!

have fun with it

also

just an idea here. it was originally a built in so have you considered not putting sides and a top on it but simply put it on casters of some form so it can be rolled to the sink and connect water hoses for fill and drain and use it that way. you could easily come up with some type quick connect so no hoses would be dangling from dishwasher while not in use.

it would just sit there in it's original splendor! the way God (and frigidaire ofcourse) made it! and it could still be used! i do this with my kd-12 hobart kitchenaid!
