What is the with three-pin/prong to three-pin/prong adapter on the power cord?

Ah cool.. this is one of those Kenmores with "redundancy".
Water temperature selection is on the timer AND via a switch. Turn to "Automatic" to select via the timer.

IIRC this was the smaller capacity tub, although based on the pic I appear to be wrong.

The control panel on that washer is very similar to the one on my grandmother's belt drive washer. Her's is over 25 years old!
