Why is the new style stem so much weaker and has a 4 to 5 year life expectancy than the older seal kit? Are you able to use the retainer washer and retainer lock ring with the new style stem?

Where can I find and order the original mountain stem seal kit that was used in the 08' and 12' Maytag washers? Since these were more durable I rather install this kind in my washer.

What enables the old style to last so long?

The newer style mounting stem and seal doesn't last as long as the older ones due to them going to a lip seal for the agitator shaft. The older one with the washer and separate agitator seal just worked better. As stated on a separate thread, you can use the newer style stem with the older style agitator seal which will give you double the seal.

RCD, check out the Maytag washer water leak thread for my request for your expert advice.

RCD, I was examining the newer style stem lip seal and wondered if the rubber seal could be pried loose and removed. IMO, the opening look like the agitator shaft seal, the retaining washer center seal and the retaining lock ring can be set inside the opening like the older style stem seal. What do you think, is that possible?
