Any H-axis front loader.

I love to see some action, not only hear the noise and watch a timer

And once again, I am here to defend the much-maligned modern Frigidaire top-loader, goddammit!

Call it a big, white hunk of plastic; bemoan the absence of a cool-down protocol for the "Colors" cycle; curse the lack of timed dispensers for bleach and fabric softener; bitch to high heaven about how it only fills to a medium-high water level: Of all these things, it stands accused.

But calling its wash-action boring? No way! With the correct clothes-to-water ratio, I think it's one of the most engaging top-loaders to watch.

ALL front loaders in my opinion!!! (yawn) although the commercial ones are better. all the front loaders made today are soo boring, pausing for a while then reversing, then the spin, (omg!) the hour they take balancing and re tumbling, WHEN they dicede to spin if at all, then they pulse spin! i hate that, then when they do spin the whole house viberates. my front loader used almost no water, i hated it! there was NOTHING going on! its almost like watching a dryer tumble! terrible. i actually got so bored with my LG front loader i un hooked them and bought a used filter flo from craigslist, best machine ever, i am trying to sell the LG, nothing wrong with it, just too boring for me. the bf always laughs at me, sometimes i could sit there for an hour watching the GE! filter flos are FUN! talk about some washing DRAMA!!

GE top loaders are my least favorite. I think (and I have sent numerous email to the different manufacturers)that if the new front loaders would just add one more perforated tumble arm,it would increase the turbulence dramatically. Those of us who have witnessed the Bendix front loaders know exactly what I am talking about.

Any front loader without a window.
Any front loader with a window where not enough water is in there to let me see it splashing.

I'm sorry, but a front loader where the water never reaches the window just doesn't sit right with me. I gotta see some stuff going on to think that it's getting cleaned, and that includes seeing enough water in there to actually clean something.

top loading HE

Frigilux, I feel your pain. I've had my Oasis capped on a bunch of times as well as your Frigi TL in these "Worst Washer" threads.

My vote for least favorite machine goes to any of the DD Shred/Ken/Whirl/Tag machines. Following behind are the front loaders that take forever to decide to spin.

That being said I love all washing machines. Just some more than others.

But, I root for the underdog.

GO 1994+GE, OASIS/CABRIO, FRIGIDAIRE TL!

GO AVOCADO!

There. I've said it!

Heres a tip from me on how to end the boredom of thos GE front access junkers. Take lid off machine, cut a small window in the lid itself, take precut piece of plexiglass and silicone window in from the bottom. Then to protect your hands from rough edges, glue in some trim around edges on outside. Pimpin' my machine.

Oh I'm gonna get it......

Most boring washer? Vintage Maytag Toploader........

Bring forth the pitchforks and torches, but have you actually WATCHED one of those machines? *YAWN* Absolutely no drama. The water on the surface hardly breaks and you can't even suds lock it. How fun is that?

Sorry folks.....but I like drama....splashing......sudsing! The Maytag just doesn't deliver enough fun-value for my liking.

"Bring forth the pitchforks and torches"

We won't let you get off that easy ;)

"But have you actually WATCHED one of those machines?"

Yep, weekly for over 25 years!

*YAWN*

That's subjective....

"Absolutely no drama. The water on the surface hardly breaks"

Stop overloading the machine! LOL!!

"you can't even suds lock it"

Don't blame Maytag for engineering a great design.....:D

"Sorry folks.....but I like drama....splashing......sudsing!"

Drama always comes at a steep price!!

Me thinks, our opinions change with time. Read some of the old threads in the archives, at one time tristarcxl opinions were voiced by many others. Anything that's no longer made obviously becomes more desirable. So Frigilux one day our indexing frigidaires will be collectors items, I still like my indexing frigidaire.

Maytag Neptune FL

I don't have one of these machines but not having a glass window in the door must make using one pretty boring as front loading washers go...

Most boring automatic washer?

Well, since there seems to be a HUGE bias toward Maytag machines. And since people have expressed dislike to Wascomat and Primus and I am always the odd one, I will voice my opinion with the following:

I have to agree with tristarcxl, Maytag topload machines are indeed boring. Small tubs(most i've seen on vintage models), good construction, and reliable(the vintage models), but boring. The frontload frigidaires are boring also, there's hardly any water in the machine. Maytag neptunes boring also, there's no window to see what's going on. Construction is OK, but with no window the fun is taken out of the wash experience.

I just finished load 17 in a vintage Maytag toploader for the people I'm house sitting for and I've been here for 26 hours!!! Their action may not be splashy and loud, but it's is very enjoyable to watch as it is a very soothing washing machine!!!

My vote goes for the vintage Maytag AMPs. Even if you figure out how to defeat the mercury switch lid, you'll find there's not much going on in there, even with a reasonable-sized load.

I agree! Vintage Maytag top loaders are soothing. They just purrrrrrrrr. But if you do a small load and lower the water level then you can get some real splash action out of it. Try it!

Maytags are Soothing...

Yes. They are. They're well built, reliable, do a decent job washing, and a decently short cycle, last forever...

But they're boring! They fill, then agitate. As soon as they start, a thin film of suds cover the surface of the water and that's the end of the show! *Yawn*

Chunk a couple pairs of 38x36 pairs of blue jeans in one of the older small tub machines and watch the "drama". They'll just sort of sit there and move back and forth! That soothing hum/moan of the machine? Soothes you right to sleep! *Yawn*

I grew up with Maytags. I love the machines. They work well. They're just so bloody boring to watch! I'll sit and watch Friglux's awful Frigidaire TL any day compared to a Maytag! At least there's always something going on and clothes are moving around that you can see!

I'm not knocking the Maytag folks, I'm saying it's boring to watch.....that IS the point of the thread right?

everybody may not like the indexing tub frigidaires here, but.... even tho they might be cheaply built and not relaible... and YES the do not have ANY rollover even if u barely overload it but.....! they do have alot of drama when u think about it, one reason why i like them, the agitator and the tub turning, always something going on.

Idiot scrappers and boring front loaders

Get a load of this: I was visiting a local junk yard, and was talking with one of the workers there while searching for some parts to a direct drive Whirlpool. He told me that someone (rightfully, in my opinion) "threw out a Maytag front loader that was less than a year old, and I have one just like it!". It was obviously a piece of JUNK HE garbage that needed some ridiculously priced part (a bearing or spider, perhaps?). And this turd saved it!

Maytag Neptune no window

I almost forgot about this machine (I try to as much as possible), but yeah, that's where I draw the line. Building a front loader with no possible way of looking in is an insult to everyone here who are washer enthusiasts.

By the way, the lid on the Oasis/Cabrio are EASILY hacked. You need a set of magnets from Radio Shack. Place them next to the lockout solenoid. Start machine. When the lockout sticks out, push it back in a little (it's testing for a lid really being there). Once it stops feeling for the lid, you can let go and you can watch the whole thing.

ALSO, if you want water drama, do the Sheets/towels cycle.

If you REALLY want to play with it, put it into service mode.

Euro Toploaders and undercounter miele FL

Can't stand EU TL and those built-in/undercounter single door Mieles (no window as the Neptune). I do want to know what's happening inside. At least those drop down Lavamats and Askos could be hacked in the outer door to watch some action

Euro toploaders ..... one can hack the lid but can't see the laundry while tumblin', cause the cylinder is locked..... remember to open the umbrella before watching a spin, it's a rainy experience ;-)

Frigidaire TL

bosch2460's profile picture
I will have to say in defense of those poor indexing tub TL Frigidaire washers....

A few years back I worked in Dining Services in a Nursing Home as Assistant Director. We got a brand new set exactly like Frigilux's. I witnessed it for almost 3 years, and never, ever had a repair. Mind you that these machines were used as industrial machines, doing up to 10-12 loads a day. There were days where there were an excess of 20 loads. We washed all of our own towels, shirts, aprons, mops, and table linens for 2 dining rooms. It was not the greatest at cleaning, but managed to suit our needs. But something can be said for its quality, despite it's short comings, I think. :)

Just wanted to make a note since it gets trashed a lot.

And while I am here....the most boring washer to me, is any DD TL with that damn dual-action agitator. I do not wish to watch anything shred my nice clothes, and still not be able to clean worth a damn. With the top of the agitator going in one direction...snore. ;)

Have a good day, all

Joel

Old Maytag

I know im in trouble, but the maytags do not do much in my opinion I grew up with 2 Frigidaires a 55 pulsamatic, then we got a wcdan custom deluxe in about 69 I was 4 and can remember them both, now they washed,my aunt had a 606 Maytag and I remember thinking ,what on earth ,this is a joke compared to moms machine,To the Maytags defense,it did run 33 years and was still running fine when they got a new set,I have a 806 that is going away as soon as I can find something else, got it because my hubby said my Norge was too rough,it was but it sure as hell washed the best I have ever seen.

I have to vote for any washer with that Dual Action or Corkscrew agitator. They are SOOOO boring its like watching paint peel but that would prob be the more intresting one. When I was kid we had a pair of Norge 20Lb washer and dryer it washed the hell out of clothes and that agitator lint filter that would spit everytime it stoped to go the other way. They got them in 1972 or so before I was born and they lasted till I was in college, that washer didnt slow during the washing arc it had a huge straight vane agaitator that seemed to slam against a wall then reverse.Mom complanied about pilling the colthes and she even had one of thoese shavers.

Oh, I don't know about that, volsboy1. Just slip that shredmore in high gear and pop the clutch for some rollover action that rivals that of a 1-18! True, it would have to be the lack of a waterfall lint filter that does it in for some of us, but I find augers to be somewhat fascinating. But that's probably because I used to live on a farm. Go figure.

I never had a problem with the dual action agitators...the first one I installed on a whirlpool, never shreded anything and seemed to work better with a full almost packed load, as in their demonstration, but it did work alot better in the belt drive rather than the direct drive, the DD was moving so fast and short strokes that the corkscrew never seemed to move anything, and then in the newer models they angled the vanes downward which helped a lot, but in gentle speed, with hese agitators nothing moved, so I really preferred the larger KA agitator for a DD application....

but I did find the 1-18 frigidaire to be boring, like what was said earlier, unless its a tiny load with a lot of water, that thing would bob up and down, and the load would just sit still....

For a Kenmore BD, washer, I vote Super Roto-Swirl FTW.

For a DD machine, the str8 vane agitator does nothing. The clothes just sit there.

The Kenmore's we had were all belt driven and the agiator I think was broke it never rolled the clothes. We had a new Maytag with the same type of agitator and it was just as boring. When I moved out for college I got a used old Kelvinator and it was great I have never seen one before with that strange huge agitator,I just told the used place to bring me a cheap whasher.I loved it,that was a good washer and it ran night and day cauz my parents got me a Apartment when I was in college instead of the Dorm all my broke friends would bring there wash to my place. My best friend has a Shredmore and I have used them alot they wash very differnt than our Kenmore's but I have never had one myself though.I JUST LOVE THE FRIGIDARES 1-18 and the Kelvinators also were cool when I first used it I didnt think I would be able to get any clothes in it,I didnt know they did that strange offset round and round deal it was OLD when I got it and lasted another ten years till my roomates house burned down.

WAIT A MINUTE THERE BUSTER!!!

MAYTAG - When properly loaded, the clothes just seem to dance in the water as they rollover. I love the action! I adore watching a Maytag...There may not be Alexis Carrington-Colby-Dexter DRAMA, but the machine was designed for stoic tenasity while doing a proper job to a proper load...

I LOVE ME SOME MAYTAG!

Any machine can seem boring to someone...I personally don't like these new generation of top loaders that use a FL washing system - the agitator turns like 500+ degrees one way pauses and then turns back...AND these new pulsators do nothing for me...Not my thing, but I am sure some people love them...AS for pulsators - Give me a good old Hoover, Maytag, or GE portable...Now that's some pulsator action!

At least they spin drain

Ever since the AMP, all Maytag washers have a spin drain. I think this greatly adds to the drama of the overall cycle. Any washer with a spin drain is more interesting to me. I especially like any solid tub machine because the water is ejected so quickly, faster than it can be pumped out. As for most boring I would say a Kenmore with dual action agitator, whether BD or DD.

LOL.....I was talking about out 2000 model Maytag it was awful it would throw belts all the time and the pump was replaced about 4 times. It was a performa I think not sure it would also leave grease on our clothes when we didnt have any grease on any when they went in..My Mamaw had a centerdial Maytag that lasted for 25 years. It was a great washer...

I like nearly every washer but have to agree with some the newer machine are pretty dull, i miss hearing the sound of the timer advancing through the cycle and the higher water levels you get with older washers and the louder motors that sounded like they had some power in them and they were going to take off lol oh happy days
