I am considering buying this Maytag Centennial glass top MVWC700VW washing machine.

All the online reviews I have read have been good except for one guy stating that steam escapes from his glass top and fogs up the top of the washing machine. He says he puts a towel on top so it doesn't do this.

Has anyone else had this problem?

His house must be awful cold. Did you know "Hot" is little better than warm on these new energy saving machines? But i agree i like that window.

It's a Whirpool under the skin; but hey there appears to be SOME sort of fun-factor!

This particular machine isn't one of those energy saving machines, so I think it should wash the clothes well.

If you're looking for something new, I would at least give it a try. Anything's better than a $1,300.00 HE junker.

I completely agree. I had an LD HE washer that was a total piece of junk. It made my clothes feel like sandpaper. I returned it after 3 days. I realized later why the clothes felt like sandpaper. It's because the machine uses such little water and rubs the clothes together so much, that It would wear out my clothes. Sure you save water, but then having to buy new clothes every couple of months wouldn't save any money.

My Kenmore Oasis

I did some tweeking to my Kenmore oasis & was able to get the water almost to the top - Machine does a great job, The wash is completely submeged now - Even checked the motor amps whitch are within the safe range.

If you love a machine you will discover what you need to make the necessary changes.

SPEED QUEEN TOP LOADERS ARE BETTER

The money you spend on this Whirlpool washer will not be worth it $599 and you will only get a one year warranty. I just bought a TOL SQ top loader and the washer has a 3 year parts and labor warranty, 5 years on all parts and a lifetime tub warranty. I bought my mother a Maytag branded refrigerator two years ago and almost to the day the compressor went. Guess where that fridge is now. I would never buy a new Maytag branded product. Buy a Speed Queen for the same price and you'll get better quality.

Aussie Version

Heya folks,
We've got this exact machine (only because we couldn't afford the speed queen at the time) and have been more than happy with it...

There are a few points to note though - and please keep in mind that we have the Aussie version (Not sure if it's any different to the US one), But, it's rather noisy - but mostly from the 'screw' on the upper half of the agitator that can rattle when on low water levels. Ours has a neutral drain (was hoping for a spin drain) and if you open the lid during the neutral drain - this then engages the transmission to spin... (Not recommended when still full of water! LOL)

I'd like to increase the 'Super Plus' load size and add some more water - but have no idea how to... Figured I shouldn't play with it till the warranty expires. But overall - we're happy with it - considering it's about the best (short of a speed queen) here in Australia - well in my opinion anyway... We paid about $1100.00 for our nearly 12 months ago - and oddly enough - you don't often see them advertised or displayed. But the RRP when we bought was $1600.00!! Ludicrous if you ask me for a fancied up Whirly. Also wish we could get a window lid on the Aussie model - but alas - and the lid switch is difficult to get 'man-hands' into! LOL

Does anyone know if Maytag/Whirlpool will ever release the matching dryer over here??? I keep asking the question of Maytag - but they're never sure... Oh and LOVE that you can turn the timer in both directions... Shame that all the control knobs are consisten with their feel though - obviously different switches in behind - this cheapens the feel somewhat for me...

Otherwise though - very happy with it for what it is... But still - prefer the SQ's anyday!

Cheers Steve...
