One of my sources has a KitchenAid built in dishwasher come in on trade. Model #KUD121SSO. Looks like an older style, but it has a touchpad, with a digital readout. Any thoughts on age? Worth picking up?

take it now and when it craps out, rework it with standard p

This is a 21 series machine with a touchpad similar to the units made for ISE at the time. They work great until the computer craps out. At this point, it looks like just about everything has been discontinued by whirlpool.
I would look for another "I" series 21 machine as a donor machine and when and if your controller dies, convert the machine over. It will still give you all the same features and may even rinse better since there is an additional final rinse(at least mine has it)
Just be careful as the computer units sometimes use thermistors in the temp sensing circuits and the regular ones use the mechanical tstats.
It will wash great if everything else is okay with it and even if the racks are questionable, you can find them here and there for some reasonable prices.
