Hi, I had an apartment for a week when was in Dubai. There I had a Samsung washing machine. This is the first time I have used a Samsung washer. The apartment had a Samsung fridge/freezer and TV all very nice and modern. The only Samsung Ive ever used before is my mobile phone.

Anyway, I switched the machine on to be welcomed by nice jingles that the machine makes - It appears theres no option to turn this off which can be slightly irritating after the machine finishes it does jingle for ages but then again its a nice touch to the machine.

I loaded the machine up and the drum is about the size of my AEG Lavamat 72640, the front of the maqchine says 6.5kg. I put the machine on and the drum started turning, I put my ear right up next to it and still couldn't hear the motor just the sound of the clothes tumbling, I was like, wow this is very quiet - it washed and spinned my clothes with hardly any sound at all. The only sound I could here was of the drum which was slightly rocky when you push up on it, I guess a little loose - nothing major.

The only thing I didnt like about it was it appeared to be very fussy when it came to spinning, Im used to machine that just get on with it but the Samsung does a lot of tumbling before spinning and when there is too much suds in the machine this does this constantly for at least 10 mins before it spins properly and the machine automatically adds a rinse cycle if there are too many suds in it on the main wash

I had a look under the machine and the motor looks different from normal but this machine is not DirectDrive as it sounds so quiet.

The machine has an interesterting feature of Airwash which reminds me of the washer drier feature of this machine - basically this is what it appears to be, usuing hot air and condensing of the water within the machine.

Overall I like this machine a lot, I like it even more than my AEG because of its quietness.

Anyone got ant good or bad experiences of Samsung washers?

I had a Samsung machine about 2-3 years ago. Nice to see they have induction motors on them now, mine had a brush motor but it had a nice sound to it, about the only good thing about it Lol!

I have to say no one in my house were impressed with the machine, we all found the little gingles and the start and at the end of the cycle really tacky, and you couldnt turn them off which I thought was a bit silly :-)

The balancing was awful on this machine too, it would alot of the time waste 10 minutes balancing just to do a burst, so washing small mixed loads was out of the question really.

I found that all the cycles would more or less be exactly the same and the Sensitive Skin cycles were a good idea, but just a big waste of time i found. The flexible rinses of 1-5 were nice to have on the machine but even still it didnt rinse that well because the interim spins where only 3 bursts, 1 at 400rpm, one at 600 and another at 800 :-)

Just thought I'd have my say about it :P Heres a pic :-)

I have a Maytag-badged Samsung. Takes a full hour per cycle/programme. Other than that, no complaints.

Quite a large drum considering its outer shell is the size of a DW..which in the USA is concisdered small for a washer.

Wonder what the sterilizaiton and deodorization programmes do.

That is quick for a Samsung...the last machine tested by choice took 90min on the normal cycle and that was with a cold wash!

Hi Richard.

Nice looking machine you had there. I agree that the machines are too fussy with spinning. My AEG Lavamat tries to balance load for a max of 4 mins, if it cant then it just goes into a spin anyway, which is why there is a horrible banging from the kitchen sometimes. The AEG isnt fussy about unbalanced loads as it spins unbalanced most of the time, there doesnt seem to be a programming in the machine that terminates spin should it be too inbalanced, Ive had the drum scratch up the glass door from spinning an unbalanced dressing gown. The AEG has only failed to spin once when I overloaded it with a duvet and the load was too heavy for the machine to get them up to speed lol

Your Samsung machine is very different from the one I had as yours didnt have the Airwash - Sterilisation Deodorisation programs. I think this is just a glorified drying cycle as it works in the same way as the drier function does. This model I had is a Washer Drier which does the same thing on the drying cycle. I forgot to mention that on the final spin cycle the machine activates the dryer fan for a few seconds which blasts the clothes with warm air on the final spin so when I opened the door at the end of the spin cycle the clothes were warmish to the touch. The machine doesnt do an anti crease tumble at the end of the final spin though.

So this model I had has an induction motor in it? I wondered why it was so silent on the spin cycle. The only sound was the clothes tumbling and the sound of the pump which kept on switching on and off every few seconds - don't understand why Samsungs it does that.

The model I has WD B1255 is only available in the Middle East, United Arab Emirates. Most of their machines sold there have a maximum of 1200RPM which this machine had but its defaults to 800RPM on switching on the machine, in United Arab Emirates, a high spin speed is not required because tempurates can be up to 50 degress, it is incredably hot and humid there.

I simply love this machine for its stability and quietness, its the most quietest machine I have ever used. I remember the days when we had an old Servis Slimline 1000 from the 80s, I grew up with this machine it was so noisy like the Hotpoints and then we had an Indesit Omega WDG1195WG from 1997, very nice machine, But I read a brochure on AEG machine in 1998 and they claim how quiet they were and I wondered about them, then in 2002 we bought an AEG Lavamat 72640 - not that much quieter than my Indesit

Might go for a Samsung next time around but I do agree that some of the programmes are a waste of time.

Hi Toggleswitch,

The wash cycles of our front loaders are around 125 mins so around 2 hours. My AEG which has Fuzzy Logic on the rinse cycle sometimes shortens its rinse cycle depentant on what is loaded in it, if very absorbant load like towels it is quicker on rinse cycles if not ver absorbant load it takes slightly longer. This Samsung also does this, like when I used Toploader poweder in it cos I could not find front loader powder in the corner shop, it added an extra rinse cycle and the spins took longer so 2 hours and 30 mins maybe.

The sterilisation and deodorisation programmes use hot air to remove bacteria, odours etc from items of clothes - its no substitute for proper washing with water and detergent but does help to freshen up items that are a bit stale. I used this program, felt like I was using the dryer function on the machine its not unlike the usual drying cycle on a front loader washer

I think the big Samsungs here (4 cu ft or 11 kg or more) here, with tilted drums and all that, get generally good reviews. I've come to regard Samsung as a generally good manufacturer. They might not make the most stylish and advanced products, but they seem to be solid (in general, not just washers).
