I am a fan of the Spiral Ramp Activator agitator. It's awesome and I accept it is the best GE filter flo washer agitator. However, I am also a fan of the 'Heavy Duty 18' (straight 8-vane) Activator agitator also.
There are many lovers and owners of the straight 8-vane agitator from the club. I am appealing to you all. I notice there aren't any photos of this agitator outside the tub...ONLY inside shots. Why is that? It's a BEAUTY!!! I don't know what it was about this agitator but, at 11 years old when I saw it in my neighbors washer...I was completely MEZMERIZED by it. As an adult I got a chance to experience my own GE (second hand) washer I brought and put the straight 8-vane it. It came with the straight 4-vane agitator. I learned and realized it washes BEST with MORE water than the (factory set) water level settings. It has to have room to roll the clothes over while being pulled back and forth down to the bottom where the mini-scrub vanes are. It is effective and does a very good job in cleaning the wash. You can wash a real full-size load and it will clean the entire load with the right amount of water to match the load. It's EXCELLENT in design and style.

Heavy Duty 18

 My grandmother's '73 GE with Mini-Wash was a "Heavy Duty 18." It performed very well until '90 or so when the timer went bad. The local GE parts dealer wanted $110 for the timer so they bought a new Filter Flo instead that unfortunately wasn't as fancy. I wish that the '73 was still around.

The 8-vane straight agitator did a good job but was not as splashy as the ramp vane in the '91 Filter Flo that we had in our first house - at least as far as I can remember. Since I never had the opportunity to do a side-by-side test, I can't really say which was better...

Nothing beats a Filter-Flo for de-linting a load in my opinion. What a shame that nothing is made today like that!
