Contact: Paul.Seaborn06@Rotman.Utoronto.Ca

From seller:

We have two very old appliances at our cottage and wondering if they would be of interest/value to anyone. Feel free to pass on this info or let me know a more appropriate group to contact regarding dishwashers. I will be up there this weekend and can send digital photos of both if there is interest.

Viking Jet Spray top-loading dishwasher

½ Horsepower, Made in Toronto Canada by T. Eaton Company
Style: 745D231A11
Model: PV029
Serial #: 192043

It has three buttons for Mixed Load, China Glass and Rinse Hold and there are single wash/triple rinse and double wash/triple rinse, platewarmer functions.

We also have an even older Frigidaire range likely from the 1940s or 1950s with no visible model number. The oven dial is just numbers 1-5 (with 1 being the hottest). The bottom oven element just gave out after all these years but elements work fine.

Nice Top load dishwasher

Would love to see the inside. Reminds me of my Westinghouse my sister is using these days. right down to the locking lever on the lid. Mike

I thought I would look in my library and see if any of my Eatons catalogs might have had this dishwasher. I suspect its from the late 60's and my earliest Eatons book is from Fall/Winter 1972. The top loader in that catalog looks kind of similar, but lol any notice the glaring typo????? LOL. Whoops...

These newer Vikings kind of remind me of White-Westinghouse similarities on this side of the national divide.

First page, first paragraph, 2nd sentence. LOL Hand dishwashing might be a chore, but not quite the chore as described!

Hey, you could cut a main vein or artery with a knife or an accidentally broken/shattered glass. And it could be deadly.

I thought it was a reference to the following line... "family feud over dish detail".

At least in our household, that often was deadly. :-)

Good dishwasher

My sister had to have my Westinghouse that is in mint cond. It was sitting in storage anyway, I get it back when she/me finds something else in as good a shape. She just loves it. I will take a pic. next time I am there. Same racks spray arm & wash tower. Washes very well & very quiet for it's time. The dishwasher was used 5 times when I was given it. Viking was a very popular dishwasher brand here when I was growing up. My grandmother was a Viking girl, I am surprised we had a GE dishwasher while growing up .Mike

Holy cow, Sundridge is just 30 minutes south of here! Too bad I don't have room for it.

OOOOH what a flash-back. That Eaton's catalog is reminiscent (sp?) of my days reading the Sears catalog. It may as well have been my version of the Bible, Torah or Quran.

~The oven dial is just numbers 1-5 (with 1 being the hottest).
And here I thought that was only a quirky Britishism.

Wasn't Viking a rebadged GE in Canada?
Is Eaton like Sears, rebadging everyone else's products?

Yes Eaton's (no longer exists) was like Sears.

Whoa!

OMG, not quite the Viking top-loader of my mis-spent youth, but pretty interesting nonetheless! Ours was probably an older model with an impeller wash system - ours had the oval pushbuttons for the cycle selections (Mixed Load, Pots'N'Pans and Rinse and Hold on ours) and it was a lovely shade of coppertone which clashed beautifully with the harvest gold range and refrigerator.. lol

I am going to contact the seller on this one for sure!!

Mike, I can trump your grandmother about being a ; my father and uncle worked for Eatons at the St-Laurent warehouse and we got everything from the 'scratch and dent' delivery returns!

Ok, so I have sent an email to the seller about the dishwasher. Since they are so close to MI, I may try and shake the cage of the seller of that GE pull-out I am still trying to score and kill two birds with one stone!

From the original auction listing

I posted at least one of these before, but what the heck... The pushbuttons are a little worn.
IIRC, the timer dial is mounted differently from the GE Princess pull-out that I have.

Front panel

Also a bit worn, but not ruined.
My concern with this machine would be that the cabinet frame would get trashed on removal like the poor Princess frame did. The last I heard about this was that the people selling the dishwasher were away for the summer (clearly not in a hurry to settle the estate!).

Tease

Nice buttons though, Nothing that a good clean up would not fix. Function is one thing & cosmetics is another. Good luck. Mike

toggleswitch,
some Viking appliances were GE and some were Westinghouse; never quite figured out why. The automatic laundry teams were GE clones, but dishwashers, ranges and refrigerators were Westys. Most of the air-conditioners were Westinghouse until the late 70's when they suddenly seemed to become GE clones also.

They posted it on Craiglist Toronto

Check out the photos of the inside tub!
I sent another email to the seller; at the price they have it listed at, I want it!!!
Oh, and I messed up the location of this - I thought it was in Sunridge, right on the Ontario/Michigan border - it isn't... It is up in the Muskokas about 15 minutes from where I bought my Kelvy range and refrigerator set in 2004.
Oh I hope I hear back from the seller soon!!!

Neat - I was hoping they would put some more on their Craiglist listing. Thanks for including these, Robert!
It seems to me I got into trouble the last time you posted a 'dream machine' of mine, but oh well...
Wish me luck on this one!!!

Westinghouse Top Load dishwasher

that my sister had to have is next to the exact same as this except the top rack is split in 2 and the front 1/2 is attached to the lid and when open allows acess to the bottom Very good cleaner and amazingly very quiet. Mike

The one we had when I was a brat had the split rack too... This one looks like it might be a challenge to load, but I gotta have it!!
Still waiting to hear from the seller... Hope they don't think I am some kind of whack job... Oh, wait, I am! lol
