Read the comment at the bottom of the auction. I bet the price doesn't stay right for long. Why do people encourage them to raise the price? Seems to me if you insist on telling people how valuable their junk is, all you're going to find is $2000 Maytag sets in pink.

GEEEEZ!! That's just great - encouraging sellers to consider items as 'collectable' and increase the prices...
Don't know how or why it happened locally, but all of a sudden in the great Montreal area, there are a spate of classic Maytags listed on classified ad sites as 'rare' and collectible with prices in the $850 to $1000 range.
Of course, basic economic theory will soon kick in and sellers are going to find that demand for $2000 pink 'Tags is going fall like a stone...

Prolly someone who doesn't intend on bidding and likely has no means to pay for it regardless of the price. Instead of simply offering information, sentences like "This fact makes it somewhat collectible, there are actually collectors of these units out there." make sellers believe they have something amazing like finding a Renoir in the attic.

You can't cure stupid.

I do it all the time.

It's called karma.

About six years ago I stumbled on an auction for a Martin D-45 guitar in pristine condition, with a Buy It Now price of $500. The auction had just been posted and I asked the seller if that price was a typo (a Martin D-45 in that condition is worth more than $5,000). The seller said it was her son's, who had recently passed away, and she had no idea what it was worth. But she was so impressed and thankful that I contacted her, she said I could have it for $500.

Someone should reply, with a picture of Robert's Apex, or Greg's Maytag, or similar. Say "now this picture is of a collectable washer, yours is just a run of the mill, worth very little."

See what happens..........

*"Weigh to save"

Did WCI continue the WTS lid or is this before wci?

Arthur, this is the genuine article, a real Westinghouse. Fairly close to TOL with the 3-speed combos and 5 wash temp combos and variable waetr level. I don't think WCI continued the WTS very long afterr the acquisition though.

I'm not sure about the 'Karma' thing. I go back and forth. If something is miscategorized is it my problem? I've picked up a number of bargains on ebay because people listed them in the wrong classification. If you are a seller you should know where to list an item.

Add to that the fact that ebay will easily show you completed listings so you have some idea of an items worth, and I lean toward seller do your homework. (akin to buyer beware...)

(hard to tell from pics) looks like a lighted control panel? (drool...) Looks like a ramp style agitator. That sure is a damp basement! outside of cabinet at bottom has rust and also around the spin safety lid switch. All one needs is a few hundred for shipping LOL (U-Crate anyone?)

What everyone is dying to know: Did you jip the grieving mother out of $4500 for her dead son's guitar? ;-)

Here is one of the Westys I've found, this one behind Lowes. It was a fun washer - very pretty. Now residing in Roanoke, VA it was a bit older than the ebay model. Other than the water valve, it worked perfectly.

Controls - right side. It looked TOL but was one step down, no lighted panel.

Panel - left side

See the "Auto-Call" switch? This was an end of cycle buzzer that would make you want to smash the washer with a sledge hammer if turned on!

I remember that Westy washer that Greg had! I was always impressed with how well it rinsed!

The Harvest Gold Westinghouse washer

Gansky1,

When was the Harvest Gold Westinghouse washer produced? That is a really nice washer. I know it was probaly in the mid to late sixties. A friend of our family had the same washer except it was a step down from the one pictured. It only had two speed selection, no "AutoCall" and no hood on the console. It was used by a family of 5 for about 15 years.

The "Auto Call" switch on that machine. Does it make a buzzing sound, ringing sound or just one ding? Curious!?!

The true Westinghouse washers were very popular here in the south. A lot of people bought them from the local electric company called Georgia Power. Where I grew up (very rural) you really had no choice as to where to buy appliances unless you went to Sears (Kenmore) in downtown Atlanta 30 miles away, local furniture store (Hotpoint or Maytag) or GA power (Westinghouse).

I grew up with a Hotpoint washer (similar to the POD yesterday except one cycle) bought from the local furniture store. We went to church with the owner.

Thanks!
David

"Auto-Call"

I wish my Frigidaire had a louder EOC signal, the only time I can hear mine (just barely) is if the house is dead quiet--no TV, no fans, no AC.

I like that Harvest Gold Westy, would like to see her in action.
