Hi Guys

Well ive been waiting for a dryer to come along to replace the awful Hoover Vision Condensor which is currently not working as a condensor dryer because it has a blockage and thinks the water tank is always full.Ive had a lot of problems with it and am looking forward to seeing it go.

I thought I had found a replacement in the Zanussi but alas the reversing is awful on it so it's now waiting for a new home.

Yesterday I found a dryer I am in love with. 1 minute reversing intervals which is fab.

It's a model which I did not know existed. There is a very simular model which I new but this one I have never seen.

The great thing is that it appears to be virtually unused and from what I found looks like it was only used a handful of times in it's previous life.

Am attaching a teaser pic

Mark

Hotpoint dryer to match a WM?

That door hinge is rather familiar and the door rim is too. Perhaps a match to the Microprofile

This machine is a keeper. I love it. The reversing is fantastic. I was origianlly hoping to find a reversing Hoover dryer but im more than happy to have the Creda.

Can someone date this machine for me please? I have no idea. My guess is mid 80's?

Great machine there Mark!

I caught a glimpse of the thread earlier, when it was just the door hinge shot, and had an inkling that it was a Creda - it was to do with the thickness of the door trim.

Looks fantastic - whats the story with it being so very pristine?

Based upon the Creda 37405 Reversair, I think early 80s.

The Creda Crusader washing machine - virtually a match for your dryer (although the dryer isnt branded Crusader) - appeared in the September 1981 copy of Good Housekeeping magazine.

Whether yours was a later version, towards the end of the life of that bodystyle, i dont know. I think the replacement, slanted facia machines were introduced in late 1984/early 1985.

Great stuff.
Have fun with the new acquisition.
Regards
paul
p.s apologies of the picture appears HUGE on your computer. I am on my poarents computer and cant find a resizing tool on it.

Here is the 37405 on which the machine is based.

Just be aware to clean the fluff filter after each use. Its a novel design, but can have a tendency when you pull it out to drop fluu over the place.

I have recently seen a 37405 that has fluff and dust coming out of the facia, due to clogging.

me and rob went for it, but were outbid on it and its partner washing machine, which was a Husqvarna.

Hey Paul

I was hoping you would reply and give me lots of info on the machine as I know nothing about this model. The one I new was the gold fascia like this but with the vent in the door. I was very surprised (And extremely happy) when I came across it to find a see through door. I like to see what is going on inside!

Thanks for the extra pictures of the variations. I recognise the black fascia one but again in my mind I see it with a vent in the door. Did they make that model with a vent in the door or am I imagining it? I notice they actually put on the fascia "Rear venting dryer" Maybe people were so used to them venting out the front they got confused.

That coppertone one is very interesting. Have never seen that one either.

I must have a gap of time when it comes to Creda machines. I remember the ones with vents in the door up to like the one I just got then The slanted fascia ones but with the lint filter in the door and then all I remember are the early 90's ones. I did have a slanted front washer about 5 years ago but it was badged Electra. Electronic 1150 or 1100 I think it was. Ended up being scrapped and I did keep the fascia but sadly dumped that when we moved house. Never got a picture of that either. Why with many of my machines that came and went I did not photograph them to keep as history I will never know.

The machine came from a house clearance. When I saw it it was filthy. Covered in bits of food and who knows what but when I looked at the drum I could tell it was going to be a good one.I still was not sure though what the reversing was like. I knew the reversamat that I had that Mike now owns reversed every minute (I think) and so I hoped they still kept the 1 minute reversing. I can say when I started the machine up and it did I was smiling from ear to ear (How sad)..lol It must have sat under a work surface for 25 years with hardly any use. You should have seen my face when the back came off and no lint. I had the vacuum at the ready to hoover up all the lint.

Im still amazed at it. Why buy a machine and not use it?

I now do not need to go round second hand appliance places / Charity shops to look for a Hoover dryer. The Creda is the main dryer now with the 6042 to keep it company.

I am though not going to be drying Jeans in it with the metal studs to chip the paint. Also I never use full heat so hopefully that may help also. Any items like that will be done in the 6042 where the enamel drum is much more resistant to chips.

I did do the ultimate test in it today for the reversing. I dried a duvet cover. Dried it perfectly with no balling or damp patches left.

Well ive written an essay so ill bugger off now

Oh before I go...How dare you remind me to clean the filter after each load!...Its a must and I always do in any dryer...The bloody cheek of it!..lol x

Have no idea if there is a dating system to Creda machines like Hoover or Hotpoint.

Re the filter cleaning....

...just checking! lol.

Hmmmmmm. I honestly dont know about the date coding that you suggested. I dont know of a Creda date coding strategy, but yours does make sense.

The test would be for other Creda owners to see if a similar arrangement of numbers appear on their machines. Obviously, if the equivilant to your '03' was a '13' then we know we have a problem.

Me and rob care for two Creda dryers, but they are early 1970s examples - 400A Sensamat and a 275 compact. I will check, when we next see them.

You could check the ratings plate of your Compact 3 - see what appears on that. Be great to fathom another dating system.

Hoover = sorted
Hotpoint = sorted

were Creda to be sorted, that would only really leave Servis to fathom.

Paul

Thanks for all the extra info Paul!

I THINK I HAVE SOME GREAT NEWS!!!

It looks like Creda machines can be dated!

Just checked the Compact 3 and the serial number is 7804A so April 1978. This I think sounds right for the machine.

Looks like I may have actually provided some important information to the group at last!

I hope im right and its not just coincidence.

Zanussi

I have a Zanussi condenser dryer which I bought in 2000. I have always been pleased with it but for one reason, the reversing. Why is it so short!!! They must have tested it in their factories and noticed that it is not possible to successfully dry a duvet cover without removing it and unballing it frequently. If you don't you end up with a baked ball of fabric, with a wet centre!! I guess the reason I have kept it so long is because I rarely use it for drying clothes straight from the wash as I either line dry or dry indoors and finish in the dryer. For me it is more of an airing machine! Just as well isn't it? That Creda dryer looks as if it just came out the shop!!

Creda Dryer

Hi Mark,

Your dryer looks great, you would think it was new, a good find mate. The Philco washer on this thread looks like a Bendix 7147, also a good machine.

As for the photo of the Electrolux dryer, I remember Electrolux making a washer, and I am sure they had a weird door boot/seat. I was living in Scotland when a friend of my mums had one of these machines.

Good luck with your new baby, lol.

Hey Mark

Congrats on that- it really does look hardly used!
Will you be venting it?

Paul

Its nice to see the Philco version of the square door Bendix- I have to say I do prefer the Bendix version for looks tho.

On the subject of Philcos when I was working where I do for the 1st time(1989-90) we picked up a Philco/Ford washing machine which I believe was about the same age as me. The door had a hatch for the powder as opposed to a dispenser and it still had a sticker on the glass warning you to KEEP HANDS OUT UNTIL DRUM STOPS. If only I knew then what I do now lol......

Hi Paul (Hoovermatic) - I wondered the same when I saw how bad the reversing was on the Zanussi. Surely they must have realised it wouldn't unfurl a duvet cover / sheet.

Hi Paul (In royton) - Thanks for your comments. I am over the moon with it. After 25 years age certainly has been good to her.

Hi Mr Dyson - We are going to try and sort the Hoover vision and if succesful it will be sold. If we cannot fix it or bugger it up when we try it will be scrapped and will add to the huge pile of modern machines already there.

Hey Seamus - Thanks. Yes it will be going into the garage where I have a vent in the wall which I put in. There is no space where it can be vented in the kitchen plus there is no actual "appliance" space for it. It will sit next to the 6042. The 6042 will vent into the garage but that machine does not get used as much as its single direction.

Hey Darren - Thanks also for your comments. Its always an amazing feeling when you get a new toy but this one is also going to be the main dryer. It really does have just about everything I want in a dryer. The only thing missing is a "ON" light which would have been nice (I love lights on machines).

Thanks to you all for your best wishes. Im looking forward to wet and windy days where "Oh dear I will have to use the tumble dryer"...lol

I was just thinking that apart from the dishwasher the Creda is the youngest appliance im keeping now at 25 years and I now am officially all vintage laundry appliances..yey!

Creda

Darren love that photo of the Creda Washer. I am sure that model had a 1100rpm. They also made another model which had a 1250rpm. These machines were well made, unlike machines of today.

Creda use to make machines for the Electricity Board, god, I am showing my age now, lol.

As for electrolux, I sure they were made in Sweden.

Mark Puurrrfect!!!! but what do you expect, Creda cut their cloth on Drying Appliances such as the Creda Debonair Spinners and the Tumble Dryers - these where one of the most efficient, easy to use and quiet dryers of the day!!!

Makes you think why oh why we ditch the technology of old, quiet vented dryers with reversing action every 60 / 70 secs, couple that with sensor drying and bingo!!!

Am needing the Electra version when anyone sees one to match the Electra Washer - orange buttons!!keep looking I will..

Thanks Mike

I am chuffed to bits with it. Like you say what happened to the old tried and tested technology. So simple and effective.

I guess its just it works too well and will last years. We all know manufacturers don't want that to happen these days. The quicker it breaks down the quicker you buy another one and give them yet more profits for bad appliances.

And before you all say it, yes I know certain brands perform much better than others (Im not wanting to get into that debate)...lol

Mark too true,

and there I was singing Indesits praise for our Indesit washer and dishwasher for giving nearly 2 years trouble free service and excellent results only to open the washer door this morning to find 2 drum paddles have come undone with my poor clothes only just escaping being ripped to shreds with the sharp metal underneath.

I for one had changed my mind about Merloni appliances and depending how long the new paddles last I hope it stays changed. Im only ever so slightly disappointed yet.

2 new paddles have bene ordered but what with this weeks weather preventing me from doing too much laundry I saved last weeks holiday clothes along with bedding and 2 weeks worth of towels to get sone tommorrow.

Breakdowns only happen when you have loads to do eh.

SO.............

Seeing as I have the best part of 5 loads of washing its been agreed to temporarily install one of our collection machines.

Thing is I could do with a fastish spin so the Ecologic 1300 could be a goer but I cant decide.
Part of me really wants a Hotpoint too and the Ariston and a Servis!!!!!

I cant decide!!!!!!

Hello Mark

Congratulations on choosing a bloody good machine, i am slowly becoming more and more aware of what a dynamic and forward thinking company Creda were.
The variations that they produced and the different ideas is all to their credit.
What a pity like all the other companies we are we are now..............
So again enjoy your machine it is a unique and interesting model

Rob - Sorry to hear about the Indesit. Very lucky there that your clothes escaped being shreaded.

I hope you get it sorted soon. But as Mathew says...Get the Supermatic out! It will be done in a jiffy and loads of fun! You can use proper suds galore powder and have many a suds lock in the spinner...lol

Hi Gary

Thanks for your comments. I really am so pleased to have got it. In my head it was Hoover or Hotpoint to replace the vision. I had completely bypassed Creda because I thought all the old greats had vents in the door which I didn't want as I like to see the action..lol. I couldn't believe it when I saw the Creda.I was just hoping it had the reversing of the earlier models and I was not dissapointed. I love the lint filter being in the fascia as its so much easier to clean.

That Bloody Creda Micron!

That Creda Debonair Micron (piccy posted by Darren) appeared on ebay about 6 months before I was in a position to start acquiring machines.

It was in Preston - a mere 30 minute drive from my parents - and is one of the biggest 'so nearly's' of my machine collecting career!

Along with my parents 95452, it's one of the most painful misses.

Hi Mark.

Yep - noticed the Compact 3 date appears to conform to the possible date system.

Will check mine and Rob's 275 and 400A, possibly this weekend - see if they follow the system.

Just thought about Mike's Creda Electra 11500 and found a piccy of the ratings plate.
Slightly different format (what with it being Electra, it can be forgiven for it) but, to the right of the serial number, we have C1083.

RobM's 'Terry and June' electricity board advert is dated 1983! Could we be talking October 1983?

Are we on a roll?
