As I posted on another thread the Indesit is on the blink so seeing as we were desperate for towels and work clothes we agreed to install this machine for a few washes namely for the 1300 spin, lower water and energy consumption and largish load so I could catch up on as much washing as possible. The carbon brushes were changed when we bought it so all that remained was a quick wipe over and away we went after a quick rinse and spin out. |

oh......cool I love ecologics. was going to buy one but it went really high n it was nearby. :( Looks gr8 in ur kitchen as darren says :) LoL- it reminded me as my gran used J on her logic minimum iron 50oc all the time and when it went on crease guard she'd put it on F so special treatments follwoed by 1200 spin. |

BTW Rob it's just occurred to me.... It's only struck me now that you have a box of Ariel besides your machine and not Persil. Has the new smell put you off too?? Jon |

The smell????? yep not to mention the rather poor cleaning Jon. What the bloody hell have they done to Persil? The box size is 3.36kg and 42 washes. Its rather retro too. Nice to have tall slim boxes back. Persil lost scores with me for not being able to clean white cotton dishcloths or stained teatowels to even an acceptable standard and thats even on a boil. Ariel still needs the 95degrees to work magic IMHO but it really does do the job. Am flitting between softeners though, Lenor Breath of Fresh Air and Comfort Aloe and Blue. I believe that Persils scents will be changing again soon (according to the Lever rep) and a reformulation but I will believe it when I see it. For now they have lost my custom. Well the news is in too folks and thats to say the Hoover does actually clean better than the Indesit which I didnt think it would. The 95degree wash barely takes 1hr 50 compared to 2hrs 30 in the modern machine and the results were (only just better to my eye) but the shorter time it took makes it all. |

I've found that Bold and Surf both have good results. Also, Asda's own is pretty good and nice and cheap too. The Bold Liqu-tabs and tablets both perform well and I've used the Surf powder which was good too. Asda's comes in liquid, liqu-tabs, tablets and powder - all of which I've found works well on various cycles and temperatures. Hope this helps :)

All caught up now, last load drying. Aquacycle yes it certainly does do that tick tick tick thing as all fingerwheel logics did. Jon, yes I think that shape and size box may be a Tesco exclusive if you like as I too have not seen it elsewhere. Paul, you know you want one!!!!! Sod the kitchen lol. Mathew, it may be cleaner than Merloni but it aint cleaner than anything North Wales were producing until 2000. Duck and Runs :) The Indesit is repaired but have yet had the heart to remove the Hoover, could I be attached? Indesit back on Sunday I think, dont want to wear it out. Well Gary, if you want to swap that Bosch for this Ecologic il gladly swap. NOT lol, Ducks lower and runs faster pmpl. |

I wont ever settle for nothing less than perfection, Last night at my parents my Mum handed me 2 towels which I had mistakenly left there over 18 months ago which they had been using weekly. Washed using a combination of 40 degrees and 60degrees with Ariel Excel Gel, Daz powder, Fairy 2X liquids, all those ones that claim 15/30degree magic. When I brought them home and compared to the ones I had here that are used weekly and washed no lower than 95 degrees the results were disgusting, See for yourself what washing whites lower than 95 degrees does. LHS Boiled towel RHS 40/60 degree towel |

Aquarius1984, thats amazing at the results on your towels, i always wash towels at 60 but i occasionally do a boil wash at 90 thats good that ariel cleans well, i'd like to get some again but i'm not convinced with the scent, never liked the piney citrusy scent. if its more muted then i would buy it, but if its excellent at cleaning you have to have a compromise |

As its only the Daz powder on that list that contains oxygen bleach thats probably got a lot to do with it as well. My white towels get 60 but always with a bleach containing powder(Miele Ultrawhite being the current favourite). And before I get my head bitten off its just my opinion- when to live on your own and pay all your own electricity bill it kinda makes you think a bit more economy minded as well lol! Seamus |

Your spot on about the bleaching agent making the difference Seamus, liquid contains no bleach neither does any detergnet that is for colours, that is making the difference, even more so than the temperature. |

gawd ere we go :-)........I too use 60 degree for whites but i have always used Daz or any other powder that contains bleaching agents for this. Though I remember back in the early 80s, Persil and Aerial both contained bleaching agents and they would fade colours, the only powder i knew of that did not contain bleaching agents then was Dreft automatic. I used to study the ingrediants on powders because i was fed up with my colours fading, infact a rep for aerial in Sainsburys told me to turn my coloureds inside out and this would stop the fading.............load of old tosh that was. Then the colour powders starting appearing here long after they were available in Germany for example Right thats me pieces sed :-) |

Apparently the reason why white fabrics turn yellow is because they were never white in the first place, some fabrics are dyed white so you get a yellowy tinge if you wash them at high temperatures, which is why some fabrics have 40c labels on them Hot water can strip the white dye out of the fabric leaving it a chewing gum white colour or a dingy white if the stain says hot but the label says not trust ariel to get it clean, even in cool water. i could never boil wash whites at 90c, it seems a bit impractical and a strain on your electric bill, most whites will get white and clean enough on a 60 degree wash, or even a 40 degree wash i have alot of white t-shirts with logos on and i could never boil wash them to get them whiter than white, a swish around the washer with a scoop of Daz or Ariel at 40c will do the trick. i would have thought 60 on towels would be hot enough to get whites white enough |

The towels were not thrown away, but the Value powder was after Mike caught site of it and promptly mocked me via text message. Talk about social suicide, of all the places it had to be here. I have tried it and the price reflects it performance so its not for me. God know how many washes it will take to remove the build up so im not holding my breath nor expecting a full set of perfect towels for a while. Again as I said above its not exactly a great advert for liquids promising perfect whites in cold water or powders that promise the same in warmer waters, proof enough to me that they dont work. Anyway now Mike has had his fun I guess its back to the machine - I half expected a load of mockery from the Midlands lot LOL. Paul took some arty shots I only just noticed on the camera so il post them. |
