Wow, that set looks like it could have been right off the showroom floor. They're gorgeous. Congrats!

I don't know a lot about Maytags, and am surprised they still had the "classic" look as late as 1980. And how can you not love the lighted dashboard?

Congratulations on one beautiful piece of American laundry history!! IMHO none out there that are built like these!!!

I agree...

That's a great new set Christopher. And, I thought I was the only one when I was little who wanted a Suzy Homemaker Washer. Now, when I remember to do so, I can put the picture of me and my washer on-line and no one will think that I was dropped by the doctor.

BTW - Belated happy birthday Chris! I noticed that your birthday was last week.

Very Nice

I wish I could find a set like that- I would get rid of my current Whirltags I bought last year. Whoever owned those machines took very good care of them. Congratulations. I've noticed a lot of nice looking guys here too!

You are very welcome Christopher!! Yes, that set is in spectacular condition, if I (humbly) say so myself! It's funny that I bought them from James (jimmyb) in Phoenix; brought them home to the LA area and now they are back in Phoenix! I had NOT planned on ever selling them UNTIL I found a 1971 806 set in harvest gold!

But boy I'll tell ya, that was once helluva drive for ONE day (6 hours EACH way!), but I made it there and back home safely!

So Congrats Christopher, I know you will enjoy them and will get many years of service from them!

At 6 hours each way, the trip charge will kill ya!

Very nice set! Looks like the only thing missing is the box! You'll enjoy them for many years to come.

Soothing Sound Waves

Those machines are a beautiful match for such a handsome guy. You deserve to have the best. For 42 years the quiet hum, the gentle slosh and the silent whirr of the spin have been the object of my laundry affection. I can stand for hours and watch the quiet motor pull the unassuming agitator through the clothes to have record breaking rollover. Every so often it will look like a fish jumping out of the water, it sloshes madly back and forth and then settles down again. That's just the way we like them, strong, radiant and wrinkle free on the outside and wild action once you're inside.

Great set

Wait a minute - I want those back! Ha! Hope you enjoy them, glad to see they are staying in the family, I'm on the hunt for a set with a gas dryer as I am down to just my SQ set as the daily drivers and miss all the fun I had with my collection before my move.

No, unfortunately they quit making them with the tub light when this was produced in 1980. It is the last year they made Maytags with the center dial.

Last year of the tub light is mid 1975. We haven't quite nailed down the month.......yet......

Not April.

I believe the 806 in my house is April of 1975. It is a series 1 with gold on the control panel and it does have the tub light lens.

Did the models with the tub light have the blue background as opposed to the gold? And did the tub light models have the bleach dispenser on the right side, as opposed to the left?

qsd-dan's profile picture
Tub light came with models with the gold splash guard for a limited time; maybe a year at most. The majority of lighted tub models came with the blue-ish silver splash guard. My 1975 HA806 (I forget what month now) has the lighted tub without the timed bleach dispenser. The timed bleach dispenser disappeared sometime in 1973 with the blue-ish silver splash guard 06 models.

Beautiful new set, and congrats on getting them. I can't believe how pristine they are; as if they were brought from the factory. I hope you have lots of fun with them.

Have a good one,
James
