Relative shopping for new equipment, Sears has sale on and they are looking at these two.

Any one better than the other? They are looking to spend $1300 on the set.

Both seem to have a few issues. They have 2 boys under 4 so child lock out is important. THe HE3 had a few negative reviews on the bearing going out, seems I've read that has happened to a few people here. I guess the Samsung does not have a soak cycle? That's odd.

Just looking to pass on info from the experts here!

Checked Consumer Reports, and the Kenmore HE3t with Steam (a $1400 washer) scored a 75. (They don't use the steam option when rating washers.) The Samsung WF218 (an $800 washer) also scored a 75. A score of 60-79 is considered very good, so both these machines rate quite near "excellent".

Category ratings (cleaning, energy/water efficiency, capacity) for each machine were nearly identical, except that the Kenmore was rated very good for vibration (better for non-concrete/basement installations) and the Samsung was rated good.

However, the Kenmore HE2t (more in line with the Samsung price-wise) only scored a good for vibration.

They report that Kenmore front-loaders have been quite reliable. No stats for the Samsung at this point.

I think you have a case of "six of one, half-dozen of the other".

The three Samsungs they rated all scored well. The Samsung TOL was at the top of their ratings. Kenmore HE3/4/5's all scored very well, too.

Personally, I'd like a soak cycle, but they may not need one.

Let us know what they decide!

the Kenmore!!! They may all have their issues, but at least Whirlpool produced has an established track record.

Washed Up Kenmore

My son and his wife bought the Kenmore pair about 3 months ago. After reading about slow, no water, noise etc I was surprised at how well they perform. They are in a hall alcove and nearly silent. Noticed no vibrations and cycle times were under an hour. I'd have it in my home and be proud.

I had the Kenmore HEt3 for 6 months and took it back to Sears. Just did not like it. Shook the entire house on high speed spins (yes leveled). Just did not have enough water in it for me. I did not care for the pull out drawer dispencer. Trying to pour bleach in that tiny 1 in square you have to be excellent aim not to spill. I have never used a Samsung so I can not compare.

Yea

I have an almost 5 yr old Duet and that small little bleach hole is crazy. I bought a super small bottle of Clorox and refill it with the big bottle because I can't use a big bottle of bleach and pour in that little hole without getting it EVERYWHERE!

I'd check with repair companies to see if they even service Samsungs before you get the Samsung, just in case.

Uhh, haven't y'all ever heard of pouring the bleach into a measuring cup and then into the tiny hole in the dispenser? I do this with my Fridgemore with the slide out dispenesr drawer and have absolutely no problems with bleach splashing. good grief!!!

Kenmore he3

I have had mine for 5 years 2-3 washes a day plus my sis and her friend that is staying(about a year now) with us are horrible at loading it I keep telling them to do 2 loads not one. Any who that being said the bearing is just starting to go after 5 not so nice years other than that no major problems.
Mine does not have a soak cycle so if something needs soaking I put it in the sink next to it or i let it start to wash/fill as much as it needs then pour another gallon or 2 of water in and pause it. The washer will shut off after 5 min then when I restart the cycle it empties refills and resumes its normal wash.
I hope this helps...
Kenny

Yes,I have heard of that. Did that. Tried a funnel too. With my Maytag Neptune I by pass that entire step. Just pour it in right from the jug. No spills,no mess. I like it better.
