I didn't know where to exactly post this and if it need to be moved else where so be it.

On Sunday, (09/13/2009)I decided to see if one voice can make a difference. I E-mailed Maytag, from there site "contact us" and said the following:

"I have been wondering since Maytag dishwashers are now mostly tall tub machines with direct feed wash systems, why Maytag does not go back to the reverse racking design of the 1970's and 1980's. Plates and silverware on the top, glasses on the bottom. I personally owned one of these machines back in the 1980's and found that these machines cleaned perfectly, everything fit in perfectly because of how the rack were placed in the machines, and the capacity was huge. Since most of your dishwasher now are tall tub this would be the perfect time to "reintroduce" this design. Three (3) full spray arms and with no rack cut-outs you would have the largest usable capacity on the market. I hope to hear back from product develoment or someone who can give me a very clear answer.

Thank you for your time.

Here is the response received today:

Thank you for responding.

We appreciate and value our customers' opinions on our products. Regrettably, our product development teams are not usually able to respond to customer inquiries or requests directly. Rather, they gather the information provided to them via customer feedback, to make changes to our products in respect to their quality and overall design.

At Maytag, we are constantly working to improve our appliances, and it is only through feedback from customers like yourself that we are able to do so. Regrettably, our product development teams are not usually able to respond to customer inquiries or requests directly. Although your feedback may not generate further direct contact, our various product develolpment groups do regularly review our files, to look for areas in which we can improve our products.

Thank you for contacting Maytag.

RE563, I do not own a Newer Maytag dishwasher, and i could be wrong. Would the motor they use nowdays actually run that wash system? I know the belt drives had enough oooomph to almost peel the porcelain. alr2903

No Bob, it does not suprise me. I doubt anything will be done, but i'm the eternal optimist of maybe it would plant a seed.

alr2903.

I can't answer your question. I do know that they you a 1/3 horse power moter (listed on their website) to run their current dishwashers.

I don't care what any MFG's says, a true dishwasher should clean a pot on the top rack that is laced with dried on spinach or oatmeal.
If a dishwasher can not removed these food stains, then that model should be re-manufactured until it is done correctly!

Do the test with the new and the old and see for yourselves!

Still Mourning the Lose

I highly doubt Whirlpool ever thought the reverse rack idea was a good one as they never copied it - OK, no one ever copied it...At least I am not aware of any.

I loved the design and would love to see it come back, but much like a Newton drive or any Maytag for that matter, I highly doubt I will see it again...

I will say, I do like the WP design of flatware on the door - I know a lot of you don't, but I always did. It seemed to open up more space on the racks for plate capacity or other unusual items.

I did go to home depot yesterday and looked at the new Maypool dishwashers. To me the exterior design looks kinda robust but when I read the description cards above each machine, I was shocked to see that the quietest machines was 57cb. I would have thought they would have tried to makes them as quiet as possible. THESE THINGS ARE GONNA BE LOUD!!!!

I'm sure the reverse rack Maytags will beat them in the noise department.....especially the belt drive ones, lol.

Great dishwashers though, even if I have to pick crap out of the jets on a constant basis.
