My first Westinghouse! A pink Spacemate! I was originally going to leave this machine, but after thinking about it, I thought it might be some fun to play with. Who knows if I can ever get it working again. It's actually in fairly good condition. The timer knob is broken but the timer is still operable. I'll need a wiring diagram as it looks like the pressure switch has some unhooked wires. The boot has a couple of small holes in it :( Can you patch these with anything???? Or is it all or nothing with these vintage front loaders and their boots. I will also need a new pump if it ever has a chance of running... does anyone know where I can get one? And lastly it looks like the speed changer is all effed up, experts will have to look at the pictures and see what's up.

BUT it will be well worth it!!
For the wiring, you may be lucky enough that the timer and pressure switch actually say which colour wire goes where - if not, the wiring looks really similar to earlier models and I do have a couple of wiring diagrams that may be useful!
I don't know what to make of the speed changer on this particular model - it doesn't look like the L5 or the CL8 I have... Robert has a similar machine that may provide some clues. The wires in the back seem to indicate the machine was hard-wired as part of a an undercounter or closet built-in installation. You could wire a new supply cord to the terminals where the solid copper wires had been. Oh, and it looks like you are missing the pump cover - I may have a spare! About the boot, you may be able to patch it up and put the patched part up at the top of the door opening where it should not get as much water contact, but that is strictly a guess (you have to get imaginative with a vintage machine repair from time to time!!). If not, there are boots out there... I got one from Modern Parts in Ohio (don't know if he had more, though).
Anyway glad you were able to save this one! It was too nice to just leave for the crusher!!

How many holes are in the boot? If they are all on the same side then you might be able to patch it as long as you reinstall the boot with the holes at the top (11am to 1pm position).

That's very cool, Jed! You'll be able to find the shifter assy - call Larry at Modern Parts House in Parma, OH. He had lots of these parts still around a while back.

The wiring on the terminal block looks like someone simply cut the original hard-wired install. Is there a cord installed anywhere else?

Robert, I found this machine in a junkyard, it was literally buried in microwaves and stoves!!

Ok so I wired it this morning, and of course the motor doesn't work. I was told that it was a capacitor start motor but I can't find the capacitor? I can buy a new speed changer for it however I don't know if I will if I can't get the motor to work... Also how do you install the boot? I can get around the outer door fine but what does it seal to on the tub. thanks

You install the boot on the inside with the black rubber retaining ring, it looks like a big o-ring. Or if that is missing you can use a Make-a-Clamp Kit and clamp the boot in with a big clamp.

Jed if this is a machine you really want, you can have my turquoise machine for parts. The only two parts I will want to save are the pump and boot because they are brand new and I can use them elsewhere. Your boot probably can be patched and the pump cover should be easy to find, I'm sure I have an extra cover around here somewhere. The motor works just fine in my turquoise machine. You can have the matching dryer too if you wish. Come and get them.
