While it wasn't a requirement to drag this dryer home with the A502, I wanted to bring it home for the sheer novelty of having the control panel hang on the wall someday.

So - can you ID this dryer, from behind? ;)

Hmmm...

It's not a Maytag Halo of Heat, nor is it a WP/KM filter-on-top.
Might it be a Maytag Big Load Dryer?

That's all I know,
Dave

Judging by the duct-work, Hamilton or Norge? They both had some 'put a bag over her head' designs in the middle and lower end of their lines.

I don't know what it is but it has a big pulley, look at the length of that belt!

Just a butt ugly dryer, let me tell you. But I suspect it is pretty close to TOL with the auto cycle, tumble/no tumble, and push button door opener. Just a guess.

And yes - the tumble/no tumble control is actually a mechanical linkage that disengages a belt so the drum doesn't tumble. Who knew!

Dryer Drum.

I have never seen one of these before, and what a baffling design (no pun intended). There are three scoops in the rear of the drum in which I suspect air current passes through, with a set of holes for the exhaust circling the door.

I brought it home out of sheer stupidity - but the panel will be a nice trophy on the wall.

Is the heat blown in or sucked out?

It's blown in. Fiarly close to TOL. In fact, updated version of our 1964 tol dryer, but this one had temp buttons. This is my most favorite dryer door ever made. It has 3 notched positions. First position makes the door kind of a chute so that you drop wet laundry in and it slides down into the drum. 2nd notched position is like all whirlpool and kenmore dryer doors. Fully horizontal. Then the 3rd position is completely flat so you can put the laundry basket right up against the dryer and pull the dry clothes out. That drum is the same as in our 1964 model and isn't too much diffrent than the TimeLine dryer we had before that one. Use the dryer to flock your basement for christmas!!! lol.

I'd love to see the matching washer. I miss the Norge brand; it was unique in many ways.

It's not as ugly as some of the stuff being made today. I wouldn't say that's it's butt ugly, it's plain looking to me.

Did you know....

These dryers also had available a hair dryer attachment, you lowered the door as far as it would go, then snapped in a molded plastic contraption that looked like a salon dryer, you would set in a chair in front of the dryer just as if you were at the beauty shop...oh yes, the Norge does a good job,the drum is so big it does not wrinkle clothes nearly as badly as say a halo of heat, unfortunately it also blows lint like everything,, the washer however in my opinion, can not be beat.

One reason it might be such a flocker is that neither Ben nor I could find a lint filter anywhere! Does anyone know if Plain Jane had one?

Oh Yes

The filter is a HUGE square thing that slides in flat at the bottom, there is a door at the floor that opens to pull it out But that isn't why it flocks...it is a pressurized system, the air is blown into the back from a large fan, when they were new the gaskets probably did a good job, but now that they are 40 years old, every little gap lets air out, especially with back pressure from long runs and a clogged filter....I STILL LOVE NORGE!!!
