I'm looking to start a small collection of machines similar to what my grandmother (mom's mother) had and one or two others. To start with, here's what I'm looking for:

1) - 1950s (late 50s?) Westinghouse Deluxe slanted front load
washer and matching dryer. The particular ones I'm looking for had the gold colored control dials on each side of the machine and the push button info window on top. The control dials had an elongated grab handle insted of the ususal round knob in the middle of the dial.

Thanks much! My email is listed in my profile - randycmaynard.

2) - Late 1960s/early 1970s White-Westinghouse front load machine with the oval window and flat front - tall tumbler would be nice. Matching Dryer would be nice but not necessary.

3) - 1963 Kenmore belt drive top load machine which had the large three color timer dial/control. On the control pannel was a smaller water level control knob (three settings) and a speed control knob (normal and delicate). This was a two speed machine that had a regular straight vane agitator.
Matching dryer of same vintage would be nice but not necessary.

welcome to our wonderful world!

before you know it the garage will be full, the basement full and the living room!

you will start thinking 'room additions" too!

you will scan e bay and craigs list like a zealot every day and nite!

thrift stores will suddenly become your favorite stores to browse

you will not tell your close friends at first, fearful they may try to have you committed but then you will come out with a vengance and let the whole world know of your new found hobby (addiction)!

are you ready? take the plunge! find that first machine! it's loads of fun and there are many wonderful people here to share in your fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been bitten!

I have a thing for odd hobbies - listen, I'm an organist (pipe organs) work for an organ company have an organ at the house albeit an electronic theatre organ for now. Now I gotta have the machines of my childhood back - so looking forward to it and have been on the CL, EB and looking around town. Find myself checking out places I would never have before - even yard sales in the old victorian houses area of town etc.
I'm already bitten...... but it's sooooo much fun!!!!

More like "Hello" to morning wood, LOL.

I love to stare at the Maytag collection while eating breakfast every morning.

The slant front you described is the 1955-56 model. My mom had the dryer that you fit that description, and it use to eat thermostats, on a regular basis. Toward the end of its career, it would get so hot, that you could have baked a cake in it. LOL
Hugs, lotsosudz
