Thoughts on Maytag Neptune Please 		[Down to Last]

In a few months, we will be ejecting our 1990s Kenmore set for the stackable Neptunes--or at least this is what my wife wants to get. Our main driving reason is the small space in our laundry area. With a full sized stackable in place, we can install a laundry tub. We do tons of laundry, (I only use towels once!) and comforters. The Kenmore's have gone beyond the call of duty, and have been asked to do some unnatural acts (ok minds out of the gutter :-) )

That said, what do y'all think of these units? Functionality and dependability are important, as I do all the laundry, so my final decision trumps hers!

All suggestions appreciated here.

nope to neptune

 The new improved Frigidaire front loader would be a better choice,under the Kenmore name.When you buy it under the Kenmore name, you'll get more features for the money.One problem with the Neptunes is the lack of a spin between the rinses.The Samsung-made units have been having troubles-recall issues,and the company is on shaky grounds.And Sears is very good about returning theses items if you're not happy.But watch the outside contracted ying-yangs they usually send for installation,if their brains were dynamite and went off all at once,they wouldn't have enough to blow their nose.Just my three cents worth.

Interesting points to ponder

 Yeah,

I don't like the thought of Maytag potentially becoming a Chinese owned company. Did you say the Neptunes are actually made by Samsung???

I mistakingly thought Frigidaire made nothing but garbage now, and that just Whirlpool made for Sears. Guess I was major wrong on both counts.

I will go look at the Kenmores. I was very, very happy with my 90s Kenmores. They just keep working.

Only the latest Maytag Neptunes are made by Samsung. The models without windows are Maytag built (which USED to be a good thing). Have heard and seen too many bad things about the Neptune.

Frigidaire Toploading machines have few friends around here, but the frontloading Frigidaires are quite decent and have many fans here.

I like Kenmores, but have negative personal feelings toward Sears. My personal opinion is that you should make your purchase through an independant appliance dealer. That way you can avoid being tormented about Sears rip-off Maintanence Agreement and loan-shark Credit plan. But thats just me....
And most independant dealers can get the job done right.

 and another thing:comforters will truly get washed in the Frigidaire,because the newer one pump a soapy spray at the load while they plop in the water pool,but the Neptunes have REAL trouble with bulky items in thoroughly saturating them thru and thru.

I've seen the WhirlMore

 Duet/Hettie's stacked.

I'd consider them, as well as the Frigidaires.


Just my twopence.

 How I forgot to mention these is beyond me.They are a great choice.As good as the Frigmore FL washer is,its undersized very average dryer could be better.The Whirlpool Duet and its near twin Kenmore HeT3 dryers are quite a bit better.

Beware Bearing on Frigidaire Front Loader

 I bought the Frigidaire front loader in 1998. While it is not "dead", it is easy to tell the bearings have gone out. General wisdom is that you are looking at least $300 to have it repaired. Other postings I have read indicated that their bearings went out after only 4 or 5 years.

I don't think my experience is all that unusual. Now Frigidaire has come out with a fairly large model, but with still a decent price. Before buying it, I would explore if they have refined the bearing situation. Another consideration, if you buy from other than Sear, you can pick up the 5-year warranty for under $100. Pretty good insurance, considering the investment.

I left Sears for this reason, hating pushing the maintenance agreements.
That, and horrible pay.

Try the whirlpool Duet's dont get the pedestal and you can stack the Dryer on the washer, these are quite popular over in UK because they have a big wash capacity
