Does anyone know how long is the SPRAY RINSE time and the RINSE cycle time for the Maytag A712, A612 os A512 washer are?

One full timer increment which is, I believe, 75 seconds.

How about the rinse agitating time?

I believe the spray rinse is 60 seconds. Agitation during rinse cycle is 90 seconds. I get around the short rinse cycle by advancing the dial to the "Permanent Press" cycle after the first spin, and let it agitate for 5 min or so (depending on the load size).

Ok! Does anyone know if there is any agitating time towards the end of the AUTOMATIC PRESOAK cycle of the A712, etc?

This is off the subject but, I'm beginning to suspect the power-fin agitator is unable to do a good job with small washloads using the lowest water level. I say that because ALL Maytag washer videos with small loads use the medium to extra large settings.

Is it actually because the 'flexible fins' can not turnover the wash using less water.

If the cycle markings are in 3 minute increments, then the spray rinse and the final rinse are 1.5 minutes long. If the cycle markings are in 2 minute increments, the timer increments are 1 minute.

"Ok! Does anyone know if there is any agitating time towards the end of the AUTOMATIC PRESOAK cycle of the A712, etc?"

I haven't stood around to watch the automatic pre-soak cycle in the 712 for some time now, but I do remember it going from soaking in the per-soak cycle to agitating in the regular cycle. If the dial isn't set perfectly on the 12 min mark of the regular cycle to wash, there's a delay (still in the soaking portion of the pre-soak cycle) until the timer reaches that point. I have the schematics at home (currently at work) which lay out the timer increments and can scan and post them if you wish.

"This is off the subject but, I'm beginning to suspect the power-fin agitator is unable to do a good job with small washloads using the lowest water level."

In 23 years, I have never ran any of my Maytags lower than a med size load (wasteful, IMHO), but I imagine if one were to set the water level extremely low, the clothes would only slosh back and forth with the agitator. The fins need to be under water to create rollover.

A712 & small loads

appnut's profile picture
that would have to be an extremely small wash load. No towels, just shirts, or undies, or stuff like that. The last Maytag I saw/used with the small water level was an A606 and an A408. The later level was so low, there was barely enough water that got to the mesh leve3l of the filter, so filtering is very minimal compared to medium. A lot of small loads are too large for small and end up having to be put on medium, why I wished they'd put variable water levels in long before they did.

A712, A806, A606, A408, deep tub & small loads

Thanks guys for the info I really appreciate it. For me, "extremely small wash loads is cool and works for me. I like the idea of being able to wash a few left over pieces.

I actually thought the small level was higher and it washed close to a medium (SMALL) size load. But, is it that low for the variable/infinite water level selectors?
I'd really like to SEE what small load wash look like in a deep tub Maytag.

Here it is guys, is there anyway I can convince one of you to make a youtube video of a deep tub small level size (wash/rinse/spin) wash load for me.

I can make a vid, but with my 712 having an infinite water level slider, you'll have to give me a near exact figure, in inches, how high of a water level you're after. Well, I guess I could drag one of the 806's to laundry room and swap out....

Lebron, is right, that is what makes a solid tub so cool, any water level wash. Full tub of water for rinse. I never have less than 1/2 a load and always press large during the first spin.

Maytag A712 & A806

Qsd-dan, that's AWESOME!!! For the A712, the lowest setting for (SMALL) using the infinite load size slider will be fine. And the 806, the small setting would be cool.

GadgetGary, she's a BEAUTY. The same one I'm looking for and hopfully find. Just as well kept, outside and inside. The 'original instruction manual' AUTOMATIC PRESOAK and LOAD SIZE selector info...excellent.

Although, the water level is pretty low aren't the "flexible fins" able to still turnover the load? The turnover won't be as fast but, the space from the flexible fin creates an added "swirling surge" current in the back and forth stroke that suppose to ensure constant rolling water action.

Qsd-dan, you have both an A712 (80's) and 806 (70's) is there a difference in the deep tub size between these two washers? I've learned the A806 tub is 21 3/4" wide and 16" deep. Maytag's early (90's) older style deep tubs are only 21" wide smaller than the previous years models. You might think and say 3/4" extra is not much of a diffence but, I've read it could add cu.ft. to a washtub according to different manufactures labeling.

If it's not too much, could you tell me how wide and deep is your A712 tub? I know the power-fin agitator is either (13 1/2") or (13 3/4") wide and if you measure the space of the tub between the (agitator base) to the (side) of the tub you'll have the width of the tub.

Yeah, probably not a good idea to do that. Wed or Thurs. sounds AWESOME. A bright or light colored mixed load in the A712 will be nice. Whatever kind of load you choose really would be fine.
So, what do you think about the deep tub size difference between the A712 and A806 info?

They're the same exact tub. I actually have both an 806 and a 712 tub in white that I plucked out of machines earlier this year from RCD's haul away pile. I can photo them side by side for a comparison. The tall tubs remained the same from 1966 until a few years into the LAT series (early 90's).

Not sure about swapping panels between different generations. I know any 10-12 series panels can be swapped around. I personally swapped in a 712 panel on an 490. Any 06-09 control panel can be swapped.

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about the LAT series. I'm a hardcore helical transmission fan and plan to stay that way. I faintly remember someone here claiming to have swapped an LAT9806, or something very similar, on a 712. I would be interested in doing that for greater flexibility, but I'm pretty sure RCD wouldn't let me rip into one of those solely for the control panel if one happened to end up in his haul away pile, lol.

hardcore helical transmission...for greater flexibility

I'm totally a hardcore helical transmission fan as well. I don't really care for the orbital. The greater flexibilty of the Computer Touch Controls is the reason I thought about swapping panels. The 712 washer (helical transmission) with the LAT9900 (computer controls) would be NICE!!! The outside shape of the 712 and 9900 control panel look SAME. What do you think?

Umm, not quite Dan. If that's how you "look" at it, the A712 is 4-speed also. The 4-speed refers to the 4-speed combos of N/N, N/S, S/N, and S/S agitation & spin speeds.

Surprisingly, the smaller load performed better than I would have thought. I included the entire first spin cycle so you get an idea how the spray rinse acts. The rinse cycle gives a clearer picture of rollover due to the lack of suds, however, the extra items I included during the wash cycle clearly teeters the load on the verge of being overloaded.

That is an AWESOME video. The A712 uses much more water than I expected for the SMALL setting. That isn't an extremely small load. It looks like you add 5 more cloths and everything would still turnover and be tossed through the water.

Does your A806 use as much water for small or less?

Your (7' x 8') fleece blanket video is cool also. I see that the tub is big because it looks like you can add a queen size sheet set to the load.

I am definitely getting an A712 washer. And a Digital A9900 if I can program GENTLE-SLOW and GENTLE-FAST to the delicate cycles. Or, the Digital A9904.

Thanks alot for the video. I really apprciate it.

Well, I have raised the overall water level buy a 1/2" or so (water level even with the bottom of the lint filter), in order to wash large blankets and the couch covers on a 3 week basis.

"Does your A806 use as much water for small or less?"

Haven't tried it yet, but I'd imagine the water level will be higher as the levels are on the higher end of each load size (if that makes sense).

Last night I finally got 806 washer #4 unloaded from the truck and my OCD kicked into high gear, so I ended up digging out the digital calipers out and spent a few hours making very tedious adjustments. I'll see if I have time to get it hooked up tomorrow for some test runs.

Qsd-dan, I thought so it seemed high. Not a mechanical guy, what are the "digital calipers" and what "very tedious adjustments".

I hope RCD or someone else can "chime in on the answer" of whether that swap would be possible. I liked the idea of having a longer wash time, double wash cycle, extra long spin, hand washable cycle and the "MINI" water level setting for tiny washloads.

Please let me know when and if you come across more A712's on the east coast, closer to New York.
