Found this set listed on Craigslist up in Chicago? Would this washer still be a belt drive or direct dirve machine?
Don't recall seeing an electronic dryer with a control panel like this before.

Close up of the Dryer control panel.

Looks like the first of the direct drive machines. Those machines had the "wet look" control panels circa 1988/89.
My friend had that washer or one very similar.

By the width..

It looks like a DD washer. The BD washers were just as wide as the dryers, but the DD washers are more slim.

That dryer may have been paired with a belt drive washer no?

The dryer seems like it matches a belt driven washer, but ya that washer is definetely dd.

Could the dryer have been matched with BD washer?

I don't think so. The electronic controls on the BD models were not as centered on the console as the one in the photo above. Also if you look at the door handle you will notice it does not have the chrome-like framing around its outer edge. The Whirlpool dryers that matched belt drive washers had this until the end of BD production.

The washer is definitely DD. The width is narrower, also the lid is bigger than the BD lid, and although it is hard to tell, I think the handle is the one with the cut out in the lid well which is similar to Maytags. A BD would have had the same plastic handle as the dryer.

If I had to guess I would say these are 1987/1988 models.

Have a good one,
James

90's

This set is 90's. The dryer is a gas 9800. Notice the "clean touch" controls on the washer. There was a matching washer for the dryer.

I have the electric version of that dryer. It's a very nice one, very efficient. I have never seen the gas version before. I also have never had a problem with it either. I have never seen these electronic models before, so I think they are quite rare.

It was WP's TOL model in 1993-94. I have the matching washer, which also has electronic controls and it's a DD machine. And my washer is still going strong.

My buddy's folks have that washer, purchased from Circuit City in 1993. I remember when it was new and they brought it home in the back of their gold '79 Lincoln Towncar!
