Driving up tonight to pick her up :) Been looking for an Easy for a bit now. Anyone know anything about them mechanically? Are they decent machines? I'm so excited!

I like my Easy

Ive used mine and actually like it,it spins the hell out of clothes and water too.The only thing about an Easy the paint is so thin on them and usually have to be repainted.Good luck Bobby

Paint

Now paint is something I can handle :) I love the look of these machines, and the fact that they have a transmission driven agitator adds to that a lot. What are the faucets for?

Semi Automatic

You hook those up to the sink and contol your water temp when you fill it.Thats partly where the semi automatic comes in,and when you rinse you swivel the faucet over to the spinner tub,it has a hole in the top and manually it sprays on the clothes ever how long you want to spin rinse. If you like you can use your wash water more than once.I dont but for rags or the like, you can do that. Then drain the tub it has a pump put in fresh rinse water and agitate, then put them in the spin tub and rinse again, then let it spin awhile to dry the clothes. They really come out void of most water.Sounds like a lot of work, but its kinda fun.Good Luck Bobby,Ohhh be sure to ground the machine. If your sloppy with the water.

They spin at 900 rpm's, and the longer you let the load

If you have the basket with the Cone, there is no need to rinse in the wash tub. Test after test reveals that the 1100 needle spray holes in the cone thoroughly rinse the load in just a few minutes, depending of course on how sudsy your washing liquors are.

The most encouraging thing about this machine is what the picture reveals. The two drain controls at 5 and 7 o'clock on the control panel are in the drain position rather than in the fill position. A machine that old with control left in the fill position usually causes the valves to seal over the port openings. In the drain position, they are free- standing--open like an oval window.

Just be sure to fill both tubs with a few gallons of hot water and liquid detergent and let the solution soak a while before you fire up the motor. Then after the water drains--and only then--gently slide the drain control levers up and down. Both tubs will drain simultaneously. If you do this carefully, you should have no trouble. Stuck valves often come loose and fall into the pump, then you have a big pain in Forest Gump's buttocks to deal with.

This is a magnificent washing machine, extemely agile and powerful, precision engineered, most probably a 1958 model. It looks to be in excellent conditon and you have the very rarely seen literature accompanying it. Wait till you read the rinsing options: spray or power flush.

I'm so happy someone went after this. Welcome to the the Easy Spin Club.

Hey Tim...have fun with it! I'm glad somebody is coming to its rescue! An Easy Spindrier is on my wish-list too. And fantastic that you've got some rare instruction manuals with it! Maybe you can scan it and post some jpeg pics here. I'd love to see the contents of the manuals.

I LOVE my Easy

You're gonna have a wonderful time using this machine. It's the most fun machine there is.

I rinsed clothes in the spinner and then put them in my Maytag wringer with fresh water -- and not a single bit of suds showed up. The spinner rinse is great.

Congratulations!!!

HI Jerry

I hear ya man, and thanks for conducting a "test" and revealing the results. I bet rinsing them over again in the Maytag was a very fun chore.

Mine Rinses OK

My machine doent have a cone.I always use a tub rinse and a last spinner rinse.Running them toooo long in the spinner creats lots of wrinkles, but yes if you have to do laundry they are lots of fun.I have never used my 1930 Easy I wonder if it throws water all over. Its the vacuum agitator. Thanks

Hey Bobby

I have an extra spin basket with the cone, but it's heavy so maybe pricey to ship. Not sure, hear the post office has a new system with flat rates for boxes of various sizes. Anyhoo, you can have the cone spinner. I can't let a a fellow Easy lover go with out the joy of the cone. We'll just have to figure out the shipping.

GASP !!!! You HAVE the plunger bell agitator Easy and you don't use it. I'd be ringing those bells a lot. I've heard you just have to be careful not to fill the wash tub too high.
Please try it and let us know.

Video is up!

Went and picked her up last night and was up until 4am tinkering :)

Everything seems all well except the pump, which makes a lot of rattling and leaks a bit out of the shaft. Dunno what to do about that. I had to take the motor apart and oil the bearing caps because it was getting tight and squeaking. No damage done to the motor, I cleaned it of all the crap that had collected and it ran faster and near silent. Motor is a GE.

I'll probably start a new post on some more specific questions, but it was Easy-er (ha!) to use than it looked and all of the drain valve worked like a charm. The Wash side doesn't completely seal sometimes, but that may get better with use.

I know right

macboy91si's profile picture
I was sooo curious what these were like, there is very little info on them anywhere, a few photos, but only video does that lazy Easy action justice. The machine is VERY quiet after the motor service, I was worried about losing transission oil since it has to be transported on it's side, but no worries after hearing how quiet it is. The pump was unhooked during the filming, it's rattly. I'm assuming the pump bearing is going out, but I don't know where to even start for a replacement. The pump spins very freely, but the shaft is very loose in the bearing and it leaks water through the pulley shaft. I dunno, I bought some rtv sealant and I may take the pump apart and see what I can do, there is a bolt where the weep hole usually is, maybe this is an adjustment. Luckily, the whole pump doesn't have to be replaced, the pulley/impeller is located on a removable cover, so only that has to be removed. 6 screws and a gasket and boom it's off. The machine seems very serviceable and the fragile parts all are in good shape, mainly the drain plungers. All of the controls work on what look like bicycle brake cables which is cool. The only thing that flat-out does not work is the timer. I didn't know that the timer is NOT linked to the motor. It's a kitchen timer essentially and is only there to remind you to turn the machine off. The bell works, but the timer won't wind up and run. Also I have not tried the inlet faucet system, it seems pretty cool, especially the power flush spray rinse thing. That works so well and the motor has the torque to keep the RPM's up during spin so it really gets the crap out. The neatest thing about the machine is that it's a twin-tub machine essentially that's powered by one motor. It has a huge transmission in it. Cosmetically it needs a tab for one of the controls, and the spinner lid was damaged. Cool machine though, I love it.

-Tim

Tim . . .

So glad you like your Easy. I have not been able to see the entire video yet due to the fact that I'm camping and the internet connection is not very fast. Anyway, I was glad to see you discovered the little marks inside the tub that indicate the water level. If you put more water in the tub, the spiralator just doesn't do anything. It moves, but nothing happens.

Also, go ahead and hook up the water system so you can test the rinsing. It's very interesting.

The larger faucet is the drain "hose." Don't forget, when you spin the clothes the first time, swing the faucet over the wash tub so that the water from the clothes spinning returns to the wash tub for the next load. Years ago, when so many people were on farms and/or had well water, it was important to conserve water in this way.

Mine is also missing one of the plastic handles on one of the control levers. And the timer knob is broken so that I cannot turn the timer to see if it works or not. I guess I could use a pair of pliars to turn it, but just haven't.

I thoroughly enjoy using my Easy. It's really the most fun machine I've seen. And very quiet -- like you say.

Enjoy!!!

Jerry Gay

Timer

My timer didnt work at first, and then the more the machine ran it vibrated the timer and it started working great.I have another I use for parts and the pump has the same problem.I was going to plug in the old green one and I cant believe in a year the cord just turned to a rubber goo,but right now Im cleaning up after the storm,so I will get to it later. They are super quiet machines. The one in the garage I do use sometimes is whisper quiet.I think they are fun.Oh Mickeyed I ll get back with you I would luv to have a cone spinner Ive seen them but never saw one in action,Thanks Bobby
