Anything like this?

Baged as Thor for the Austrailian Market, I think the controls were a bit different for the UK.

I know the ones you mean. They come up on ebay occasionally, next time I see one I'll save the picture. They were either 'Quartz' or 'Gem'. Not to be confused with a British made Quartz.

Tom.

Hi Phil

"Square door & Horrible Drum" thank goodnes you then said after 1991, otherwise you would have been peeing your pants after all the ribbing, or black eyes at breakfast!!! I think you mean the changeover machines, still had the original "Quartz" programmer but Merloni cabinet!!its the WCI of Frigidaire all over again!!!

Is it this one!!!I1m glad you keep the Servis flag flying Phil...to many Hotpoint & Oova officionadoes around here...LOL

I know the ones he means I think... Late 90s machines usually found in silver had a squareish door, two dials and the standard 5 option buttons in the centre... i cannnot find a pic online for the life of me!

hey Darren, me too, I thought I knew all about Servis, but somehow missed that one...seems weird as it is the original Servis UK panel but on "that frankenstein " machine!!!

hard to think that all this stuff (Supertwins, Compacts & Slimlines, Quartz etc, Servis UK) came out of that little old factory in the West Midlands, Black Country Region ...I drove past this weekend, the factory is getting ready for demolition & selling off for prime real estate!!!

There's one thing I'll say about post 1991 Servis

Awful as they are, style wise I love the Rainwave and Easi-wash series. If only they'd been built of more substanial parts, had a proper drum and better programming, that's asking a lot though lol.

As for that Quartz hybrid model, it's kinda like taking a fine steak, cooked to perfection by a michelin star chef and slapping it in a polystyrene take away box with some soggy oven chips and covering it all in Tesco Value brown sauce, lol.

:)

Phil

I've found a video of the machine that was badged as a "servis quartz" in the uk in the late 90s with a sort of square door.

Sadly, you can only see the door and the vid isn't all that long, but I'm sure this is the machine you are referring to.

I had a flat in Bedford that had a Rainwave. I hated that if I washed delicates, the baffles wouldn't turn the clothes over and they sat there, with the drum revolving around them. The baffles had a very low profile. Other than that it seemed to be ok with full loads and from what I remember it rinsed well.

Just noticed this thread! My neighbours had the hybrid quartz. We moved away in 1993 so it was out before then. It was a strange machine. When it started the spin cycle it would drain the water and would pulse the motor, the pulses getting closer and closer together until the machine got to distribution speed and off it went!

Its a strange one thinking about how the last true Servis Quartz had different control panels.

Late 90s 'Quartz'

I think this is the one you are thinking of, Phil.
