On my trip to Kansas in August, I bought a seriously gunked up Kitchenaid dishwasher for $50.00

Chemicals and Elbow Grease

After some coaxing with Lime Away and a razor plade scaper it was like new.

Ungrateful Wretch

It was without a doubt the worst diahwasher I ever owned. There was little attempt to hide it was a Whirlpool clone, it was loud, left cups and glasses littered with yibbles and was hard to load. When it lost it's mind, the control panel quit responding and given a wild hair it would decide on it's own to run a cycle with the heat on but no water.

Craigslist is my Hero

Discarded in a remodel I got a Maytag for just showing up.

Random Acts of Loading

Two loads down it cleans like a champ and with a full width wash arm on top, no chance of yibbles. Its quieter, easier to load, has more options and it's control panel doesn't block opening the drawer next to it. I am very happy.

My folks have that kind of Maytag.

It's MOL, but one of the best all-around dishwashers I have ever used.
Dave

You'll enjoy it.

Welcome to the Maytag side of the force, Young Mixfinder...

MDB series dishwasher. Looks to be a MDB5100AWW? That one will do a very nice job.

***IMPORTANT*** Make sure you check the Maytag website to see if your dishwasher is on the recall list. It's a free fix if it is and well worth the call.

I am well pleased with my Maytag portable, also an inexpenive Craig's list find.

Extended his hoses and now don't even have to push him around to be in from of the sink-- he stays to the side.

Don't much care for the location of the silverware basket, but one is just thankful to have a DW that cleans well and doesn't take forever and a day.

Shown in pic after a "Rinse Only"

You can order a split basket from Maytag for a reasonable price. It can be combined to look like a basket from the machine above or separated and put on the sides of the racks. This allows you to load more big pots and pans on the lower levels.

KUDS25 is one of the best cleaning machines I have ever used, did you get the pump and passages all cleaned out?
we have naturally soft water here so that could be it too.

25 series KitchenAid experiences

We have a KitchenAid KUDM25 that we bought in 2000 when we built our house. It is one step above the KUDS25 that you had; it has one more cycle than that one and a heavier sound insulation package but is otherwize the same. While it isn't a "real" KitchenAid ours performed beautifully until early this year when it started to do a poor job cleaning and leaving food particles on everything, etc.

I traced the washing performance problem to the nylon bearings that the lower and upper spray arms ride on. The lower one was so worn out that it came off in two pieces. The lower spray arm became very loose and had nearly stopped turning during the cycle as a result and most of the water probably leaked out of the bearing instead of travelling through the arms and cleaning the dishes. I replaced the upper and lower spray arm bearings and it performs like new again. For less than $40 I saved ours from the scrap heap.

Ours is quieter than the 1996 Kenmore Ultra Wash II (Whirlpool) that we had in our last house. In 2000 Consumer Reports rated the KitchenAid with the better quiet pack as being the quietest model that they tested other than the Bosch if memory serves. Ours seems to be pretty quiet compared to a lot of other dishwashers that I have seen (and used.)

However, I still envy my Aunt and Uncle every time I am down there as they still have their 1990 KitchenAid Superba. I am not sure if that one is all Hobart or if it has a Whirlpool pump, etc, but it still has the chrome trim and handle, heavy build quality, etc. I encourage them to keep it going as long as possible as it is a "real" KitchenAid - at least compared to what is being made now!

Just got a KA KUDM24SEWH5(see in above posted thread). Is that similar to yours? Here is a pic of the control panel.

Just washed and dried a load of moderately soiled dishes tonite on light wash and it washed and dried perfectly.

Kelly, wonder if yours had a major problem in the washing portion?

Requim

The Kitchenaid dishwasher was a touch noisy and it did not have a top rinse. The start feature always required several repressing of the buttons until it decided to fire up and it was reticent to change from one cycle to another. In the end it would simply start itself when the mood felt right and i would hear it going through another cycle. If you opened the door and reclosed it the cycle ended on the spot and the machine would need to restarted if and when you wanted it to and if and when it was in the mood. The flood safe water supply failed and water no longer entered the machine. It washed okay but never spectacularly, leaving the upper corners unattended, grit on the inside of glasses and some utensils with food stuck to them. I could not be happier with the Maytag as I was the GE talltub before. My Kitchenaid Supurba was an excellent performer. The Superba and GE talltub are still in use in other units in my building.
