Paul get your spread sheets out, time to fill in another box.

Well I must have been a very good boy this year, ( or more likely santa must have been looking the other way most of the time) as this year the Hoover fairy sent a me a special message, and yesterday I was able to collect the machine.

OMF GOD, MATHEW!!!!!!!!!!

SORRRY FOR THE CAPITALS BUT I AM SHOUTING WITH ABSOLUTE HAPPINESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS ON AN ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL MACHINE IN THE FORM OF AN A3062!

WITH A 3224, 3226, 3203 AND NOW AN A3062, ALONG WITH MIKES A3008 AND GARYS 3243H, THE ONLY BODYSTYLE MISSING FROM PRESERVED RANKS OF KEYMATICS IS IRONICALLY THE LAST ONE - THE A3112.

Calm down Paul, calm down.

Am updating my spreadsheets now.

You really have just made the day for me - and in such good nick too.

Cant wait to hear all about it.
Paul

Time to try confuse your other half again?

Your Rob has grown use to the simple operation of your A3060 and surprised us all with activating your A3114 Selectamatic - even if it did turn round and bite him on the proverbial.

Is your loyalty to your A3060 being tested by this new machine?

Is this going to be the third variation test in machine operation for your rob?

Over the moon for you.
Paul

but does it work

Well yes and no, the bearings are well on their way and the on off switch and door interlock has been bypassed and the switch and parts removed, so the machine is on whenever plugged in. Also the door boot is split and the timmer makes a sort of straining noise, so plenty to be going on with.

Other than that the motor bearings are noisey and the pump has been replaced by a modern perment magnet type, overall the visuals are ok, I've done a quick polish over for the photos, but there are chips and rust in the usual places.

The machine dates to march 1979, the owner couldn't remember getting it and didn't know if they had it new or not, at some point they new someone who bought an automatic and hated it so they bought them a twin tub and swapped it for the automatic, but she was not sure if it was this one or not.

Anyway it was deemed not worth repairing, the repair man remembered me and emailed me the details, just before christmas, half hour before we went away, I didn't want to temp fate and tell anyone until I had it secure. Paul, it was the chap in penarth I got the 99p turbomaster from, what a chain of events.

Well I hope you are all well and enjoy the rest of christmas and all the best for the new year. I'm sorry time ran out for talking to you all before christmas, things got so hectic, in fact the message about this machine snapped me out of a right strop lol.

Chat soon Mathew

Oh - forgot!

There is the absent 3223H widebody still to enter the preserved ranks.

Thats the one that might still be up the road from me!
What to do?

I've counted the 3203H as preserved in the form of the 3203 (although if a 3203H were to come along then that would be another one).
Also there was the orange colour variation of the 3243H, plus the A3050. Both these are effectively Gary's 3243H though.

A3112

Well funny enough, from the description given, brown and orange pannel with a red indicator light I was expecting to see a A3112, I was all set up in my mind for the 1980 line up of 1100s, so was mommnetarilly a bit taken a back when I saw this model, but its another one saved so thats great.

It's now over in the garage with the creasegaurd dryer, so we'll have to wait for warmer weather and time to restore this one.

Meanwhile the loyalty to the A3060 remains lol.

Mathew

Very nice washer Matthew... it so exciting when you get the machine that you like a lot.
I always admired that washer the simplicity of the control panel, and the card system. The first video that i saw three years ago was Chestermike's video of his keymatic and hearing all that clicking sound's until it came to the spin phase of the cycle and the rave up,too kool.
Good luke and Enjoy.
Well i have to enjoy the machine from afar we dont have this guy in the U.S.

...we got Hoover front load machines here from the original Keymatic, but only got the keymatic itself in the first 'style' - sloped front....

We didn't get any of the newer models at all as far as I know....and I would have one in a flash if we had

OH MAT!!

I cannot think of a better machine for you to acquire.........the 3060 and this stunning beauty side by side.......oh what a choice.........plumb them both in side by side

As you know i am a fan of the later keymatics with their simple clean lines and this has to be the best looking (in my opinion)

What a christmas present, and a really nice thought that the guy remembered you!........the thought of these machines being dumped all over the country cracks me up.

Mathew well done I am sure there will be a visit on the cards LOL

Spread Sheets
Hmm i bet that pen tore the paper when this model was being ticked eh Paul *grin*

So a Happy New Year to you and your Hoover and of course all the members who contribute to this great website

Gary

Ps I am a bit lost on the dryer which one?

Congratulations, Mathew!

What a beauty, thank heavens you knew the repair bloke! Hope you have fun getting your teeth into the repairs needed, always satisfying resurrecting a fallen machine! And it does make you wonder what else is still in regular use out there, temped to put in a word with engineers down here, you know what old folk are like for holding onto stuff, and there's no shortage of 'em down here!

Hi Mathew

VERY nice looking Keymatic...congrats!

By the way Ronhic....Australia DID get a few of these Keymatics. I have been informed by an ex-Hoover engineer that a few were imported into the country but would be very rare to find now. Also, he told me that Hoover Aus were working on a prototype of a large front loader similar to the Maytag Neptune, but it didn't go ahead due to the Email takeover of Hoover.

Cheers
Leon

....now there is a product that would have probably moved many Australians to front load washers....

....I would love to have seen some of the design pics for that machine.....

Hey Chris

I'm on pretty friendly terms with this guy so i can ask him if he has any details about this machine. He's has a wealth of knowledge about Hoover.

Cheers

Sounds like a good idea Leon....

I am a tad confused with the 'ownership' as such of Hoover Austalia through the years....

....and have often wondered if there was a Maytag connection as there was in the UK...

...if so, it would be interesting to know where a large Hoover would sit in chronology of it all...especially if the Neptune came out when they had Hoover under their banner...

Hi Mayfan
Hi Ronhic

I have seen one square front Keymatic here is AU - I couldn't tell you the model number, it was in a hard garbage collection on the roadside over 10 years ago. I didn't pick it up as I already had a full house. I assumed it was a private import.

Yes, Maytag did own Hoover AU for a while - I don't know when but I think it started with the Hoover 800 series replacing the 700 series. The cheaper plastic top, the short agitator shaft, all part of Matyag's intention to downgrade Hoover in AU to be a cheap brand and for Maytag and Admiral to be the premium brands.

I think Ash would know about the details, he seems to be clued up on Hoover history.
