I am trying to make this Viking (made by Westinghouse)dishwasher of mine into the 'pots and pans' dishwasher so that I can give my trusty Mobile Maid a break! I ran a few loads through it in November with no apparent problems and it did a very good job on cleaning them. I am still waiting for a friend who is a machinist to build me a replacement hinge pin, but he says he can do it... So, the dishes as I said, came out nice and clean... |

And just above the motor, too! Yikes!! I could see a drip accumulating just above that white pin that engages the drain valve. The good news is that was the only drip I could see; I suspect that the plastic housing in this part has cracked or perhaps a gasket has dried out. Now, I found this pump rebuild kit on eBay some time ago (and it is still around) - could this be of use to me or should I just epoxy the suspected area?? i am very unfamiliar with westinghouse dishwashers, never saw an old one! especially a top loader. what does the pump, spray arm look like? lots of pics would be fun!!!!!!!!!!! that water leak may not be coming from the pump seal, i have had several drop water like that and it's either a leak in the filling dept. or other non pump related areas. and if it is a pump seal larry in parma may have a seal! can't wait for more pics!!! |

Mine is very close but to be honest the Mobile Maid is a nicer one. Just my thoughts. Mike |

When I was a child, My Mom and I would go to Stearns or Gimbels when they sold appliances. She would go shopping and knew exactly where to find me. They carried an extensive line then. They Had Philco (with the colored key controls) Westy,Norge,Maytag to name a few. I would look inside every Dishwasher and Washer. Remarkably, I was never chased out by a salesman. And Westinghouse was the only machine that I recall that had those shape jets. And I do remember the tower as well. I hate when they leak !!!

The pump in your WH DW is the same one that was used in the built in WH DWs from 1965-1970. There was a kit to convert the drain valve to a KA style valve like the 15-20 KA DWs used. Its best to call some one who actually worked on these style machines when problems arise you can save a lot of time. Call me.

Nice machine Paul... you no my friend mark has a moble maid and i do like that dishwasher ...but I think that the Viking is better yes it does not have a split rack , i think i would take the Viking over that maid because i love the sprayarm and the large FILTER system it has to filter the water better and i heard it is much more quieter. Happy washing ! Darren k. |
