Was this a good washer back in the day? I have always wanted a washer like this. Is it a good buy?

The price is right! So it's probably a good buy. (And that's assuming that there's nothing wrong with it.) It might be expensive to ship, unless you live near the seller.

I knew someone who had one. (This was in 1974.) It was perfect for someone who lived in an apartment, because it didn't require any special plumbing.

It has its pluses and minueses. It's very efficient in terms of water usage, because you could use the same water to wash multiple loads of clothes. (Very similar to how most people used wringer washers.) Since it wasn't automatic, you have to transfer the wet laundry from the wash water to the spin tub. If memory serves, you can rinse the laundry in the spin tub.
