Wow. Very impressive collection.

I recall back to when you picked up the Maytag sets from an auction. Certainly added to a very sweet set-up that you've got on display. And you've got the blue porcelain sign!

What I think is ultra-impressive is the Maytag top-loading freezer. I've never actually seen a photo of a real one. Just promotional flyers/brochures. In the brochure I recall a scene where the wife and husband are eating breakfast on the fold-out table, which appears to be in tact on yours. If anyone chimes up it possibly could be one of the only ones still around. That was their first (outsourced, of course), IIRC, from around 1949.

Love the neon. Heck, what is there not to love!

Thanks for sharing,

Ben

in the area

For THAT collection, I'd make the trip. I take a lot of grief for having my Grandma's parlor stove in the living room at the farm. She's a beauty, lots of chrome and iron. It's good to see someone else appreciates the beauty of a wood stove. (Not to belittle anything Truman-era either) :-)

Todd, you guys have done some organizing since I was there!

Photos don't do justice to your fabulous collection of stoves.

I'd like that tour, also!
I scrapped one of those Maytag freezers this past summer. It came from the basement of a restaurant, heavy as hades too! I never plugged it in, the wiring was bad, etc.
If I had only known....

Amazing--an Art Gallery of Iron Stoves

You have enough metal to open up a steel plant and a forgery.

Some of those shots look like castle rooms of of the Middle Ages.

#57 looks like a cool old church.

Love the Zenith dryer; the controls look almost like those of a stereo.

Thanks for a Magical Mystery Tour of Stove Heaven

Thanks for posting all the pictures, that zenith dryer would be from about 1960 it was made by Franklin appliances which was owned by Stuabaker car Co. Franklin mostly made private labeled appliances for Western auto Coronado, CO-OP etc. They mostly made freezers & refrigerators & washers and dryers they became the beginnings of White industries appliance ventures. My partner has restored 100 + year old wood stove that we have installed in his sun @ his house I'll try to send a picture some time. Let me know where you are in Pa I am up there often either post or Email me Thanks again for sharing your great collection look forward to seeing it some time John

I've got to say thanks for all the great comments. I do really appreciate it. I'll try some collective answers and some individual answers here as well.

First, I would have replied to some comments last night, but my laptop at home has issues. It seems that the computer does not like to have a full glass of Guinness spilled into the keyboard. The Y & T buttons don't work any longer. That happened about 2 months ago. Bummer.

Anyway....About tours. I am always happy to have someone take a tour. Right now, my museum room is full of modern appliances as well. If I know a week or so before someone wants to stop by, I'll have it cleaned up and showable. That's no problem.

Pictures of the old Maytag greyghost wringers were taken a few years ago when we moved in here. They're a little harder to see right now. I think there are about 300 moderns in front of them right now.

Ben -- I don't think that there is a table on the freezer. I'll have to look closer, but I don't recall seeing one. It came from the original owners. They said it still worked, but it sat unused in their basement for the last 20 years or so. I never plugged it in.

Steve -- HOW DARE YOU SWEAR AT ME! ORGANIZING?!?! We really didn't organize anything, just moved a few older pieces down to the 3rd floor to make room for more sellable pieces for the business. You would not have believed what the museum floor looked like before you got here. My brother & I spent the better part of a week straightening up. How's that Maytag washer, by the way? Did you use it yet?

Vern, how did we find most of the stoves? Auctions, privately, internet, shoe leather, word of mouth, etc. We look high & low.

Peter, I don't live in a warehouse (but it feels like I do since I put 70-80 hours/week in here). It's a SMALL 5 story building built in the 1870's. We have our appliance business here.

Mike, the 1st item we bought? Stove-wise it was an 1845 stove made right where I am sitting right now. I bought it off ebay. As far as the very 1st item overall, it was probably a wringer washer, but I can't be sure anymore. The "museum" really isn't open for visitors, it's mainly for our own head. We give tours, though, by invite. Anyone here is invited. Yes, the stoves are heavy. Ouors backs complain all the time. It's nice to have a truck with a liftgate.

Again, thanks for the comments and emails.

Info about the Older Maytag Chest Freezer:

Hey! Todd, I'm curious to know what the separate Long-Oval Covered area on the Right Side of the Maytag Freezer is? I'm "Wild-Guessing" is it possibly for Ice Cream Storage, to not take space in the larger Freezer area?

Peace and Kind Regards, Steve

Steve, I'm not sure what the tray was used for. I would guess things you would want to use, like ice cream, etc. I'm sorry it took ahwile to get back to you. I was sick as a dog this past week.

That is a defrosting chamber used if you needed to defrost liquids, soups, or meats. I guess you could use it for ice cream too :D

If you'd like I can dig out the brochure and post it here.

Ben

stove parts

Great pictures, thanks for sharing. Would you happen to have any firebox parts for a Copper Clad cookstove from the 20's? Thanks, Gary
