not sure if this is in the right forem or not. thought it was made before 1985 but i may be wrong here. if so i'm sure robert will move it for me as he has done before. it was given to me a guy i bought a kd-21 off of. i was gonna pitch it cause it has a plastic tub and i'm not into dishwashers made of plastic usually. but when i got it home and looked at it i saw that really unusual spray arm and decided to keep it. i remember someone here had mentioned this spray arm last year on a post so here are some pics. |

of this device. all in all a very quiet machine that washes great! has a long main wash period and 3 after rinses that i always liked on g.e.'s. we got our first "new" dishwasher in 72 when i bought my aunt a g.e. portable front loader. wanted a kitchenaid but could not afford it. hated the g.e. as it was everything a kitchenaid was not! plastic coated tub, horizontal pump and motor, spray arm only had holes on one side, feet popped out of the lower front panel when you opened the door. i thought it was a complete joke. but it did a great job and she had it forever! i slowly began to love g.e. dishwashers. this one reminds me a bit of that first one! |

That wash arm is called "Smart Wash". The idea was that it would be like having 2 MultiOrbit wash arms at the base. It changes the water patterns so it not always the same ol over and over again. That wash system does well. The filter in the back allows the water to fall into the top course filter and the water runs to the middle where its filtered thru the fine mesh. The food thats caught on the backside is washed off by the jet at the end of the arm and falls into that tank under the dishwasher. When the dishwasher goes into drain there is a check valve that closes the opening in the filter chamber. Thus all soil trapped is whisked away down the drain. Simple yet very effective design. The dishwasher moves about 35 gpm. Not bad compared to lets say a Frigidaire dishwasher of today that pees a measly 12 gpm. I had a Kenmore version GE built dishwasher with the MultiOrbit Arm and that nice deep Super Upper Rack. That rack system could hold a ton of dishes. Oh and that machine is from the early 90's I wanna say maybe 92-93. |
