Saw the video on the Kenmore with Smart Motion Technology. What does everyone think? I like the tune in the video.

All I can say is that they sure are pushing it. They have an ad on TV Land about 10 times every evening.

This is a repeat. Look at thread "New Kenmore Elite front-load".

I much prefer this tune...

The Kenmore commercial was OK, but this is my favorite ad, really like the music...

It's got to be a re badged LG. My LG does that on the tub clean cycle. I have a MOL LG. I like how the demonstrate with one article of clothing. A whole load couldn't slap around like that.

They haven't been able to get these new fangled FL's to move in one motion let alone 5 without breaking down !
Just more crap to break down and up in the land fills!

Why does it have to be so BUTT-UGLY? The regular old LG's are better looking, IMO.

I agree. The bearings will fail pretty quick in this machine. Unless the custom wash-motion cycle is only for one or two items.

Malcolm, Malcolm, Malclom...............Beauty is in the eye

Man Malcolm, you and I have completely different taste, I actually think for a front-loader it looks great, I love the square door and boxy landromat look reminiscent of Wascomat machines. I think the machine looks great in white especially.........Now performance and reliability are another story.....Now those Whirporwhill Cabrios you like are BUTT UGLY...LOL

Where is the water? I have a friend who is looking for a new washer and dryer. She wanted a big front loader. I told her don't bother.... They don't have enough water in them now. I told her to get a top loader.

Ya know we're all a bunch of fuss-budgets when it comes to modern washers. Jimm that may not have been a fair directioin regarding your friend and the new washer. Many of us have learned to adjust and have new products work very well for us. And Mike, I agree with you, I think they're great looking machines. And thanks for hitting the nail on the head, I've been wracking my brain for weeks trying to figure out what washer these new Kenmores remind me of. And it IS the Wascomats.

Post# 411424 , Reply# 12   1/31/2010 at 19:16 (5,188 days old) by supremewhirlpol ()

What!? Wascomats how so?

Post# 411438 , Reply# 13   1/31/2010 at 19:45 (5,188 days old) by a440 ()

I agree with Bob. They look like the older Wascomats with the big square door.
I wonder how this new wash action will pan out. It has been a long road to get people to wrap their minds around Front Loaders much less one that they will be getting calls on because they think something is wrong with it.
I could see this action working with a few shirts. With a full load I could see it making the wash less effective.

NICE!

What beautiful machines, I really like the design, square door and the look (it is really classic and modern at the same time). Look at the colours! I wish our conservative consumers over here would be so fresh and young, but apparently white makes up to 99% of the market here...

Brent, don't worry about large or "packed" loads. If this machine does what they claim in the video and what our 2001 Lavamat does, it will do the job on each load.
Here is what the Lavamat does: First, in the load weighing phase, it will calculate fabrics and load size, then it shows you load size (from 30 to 100 %) and the expected time remaining as well as the expected remaining moisture for the cycle that you had selected. (figures can suddenly change in the course of the cycle, should there be a miscalculation or mismeasurement, the processor will skip or ad actions, the minutes remaining change accordingly)

After weighing the cycle does what is shown in the manual (drum speeds between 28 and 70 rpm, pauses and action phases accordingly.)

I tried the different cycles with 1 t-shirt and pair of socks and a fully packed load as well:
Both loads showed the same movement pattern (or angle of falling back down, if you will), no matter what. Stuffed the machine with a perlon blanket and 2 jeans (yes, I wanted to confuse the software, the blanket hardly absorbs any water, the jeans do even more so). Same result, same falling angle, slightly different speed but the wash pattern was kept on all loads.
Similarily the wool cycle has a very reluctant "fold over" movement with loooong breaks in between, no matter whether delicates or heavy linen are in the drum, I tried it.

Cannot speak for this machine here, but the technology exists.

I think...

where not worried about the rolling or tumbling movements and there cleaningpower, but more about the 'swinging' and the stepped tumbles where the motor has to cope with sudden speed and direction changes... I will not even talk about the bearings... xD

Post# 411782 , Reply# 16   2/1/2010 at 16:54 (5,187 days old) by whirlpolf ()
no worries

might well be that "we are worried".

I (for my part) am not, no harm of any kind and not the slightest signs of wear-out or tear on our side here. The machine has been going strong all through the years, even with the sudden changes of direction or with sudden change of speed. May the future tell, but I trust that technology from my own experience.
*shrugs*

Still a silent machine, still doing 8-10 loads a week, still excellent results on all fabrics, cleaning out stains and what have you...

Hope the aforementioned Kenmore does its job as well (never seen it though, as I said)

This machine is nothing but crap that monkeys choose to buy. I refuse to associate this machine with ANY Wascomat. These machines are not even in the same class! It's just like me saying that the Whirlpool Calypso is built as good as a vintage Maytag.

I can't see the motor or bearings lasting more than a couple of years under that type of abuse.

Oh well, it's good for the economy SmiliesFTW.com

Joe true, there's the technology but

.... actually you mentioned the huge difference between this KenLGmore and your (latest) Lavamat : "drum speeds between 28 and 70 rpm, *pauses* and action phases accordingly".

That *pauses* between reverse tumbles maybe means just 2 seconds, anyway it is enough to make your Lavamat shaft and bearings much happier than KenLGmore ones

If you were a car .... would you enjoy a driver that keeps on shifting between first and reverse gear without stopping ?

LG ;)

I for one will never buy a LG product again. I think sears is cutting their own throat by doing this. But I'm sure these decisions come from higher management, like all other poor decision making processes that are made. This is a perfect example as to why we are in the sad state of affairs we are in.

What we need is more water to wash clothes with in FL machines, not more motion!

Hi everyone, been away for quite awhile..but am finally back online. Formerly known as agiflow.I missed this community.

I never thought the day would come when sears would use another company to produce their TOL washers other than WP. I guess it all comes down to the bottom line.

Do we know that Sears declined WP, or did WP decline Sears? No doubt whatever, it's about money. alr2903

My only hope that if they have problems with these LG machines, the general public does not associate it with Whirlpool.

The general public seems to assume everything Kenmore is made by Whirlpool!

Most people do not understand Sears vendor coding:
A Whirlpool made Kenmore Laundry product prefix is 110. --------- !

Unfortunately I have heard Sears employeees for lack of knowledge or maybe just to close a sale will udder the tried and true "W" word that people feel comfortable and has a history. This was also true back in the early 90's when GE started using the RCA name on their major appliances leaving consumers to possibly associate it as being of the same RCA Whirlpool type product the consumer may have had experience with in the past.

While I am mostly fascinated by these new-fangled high tech appliances, it should be noted these are not accessible to blind and low vision consumers. See link below.--Laundry Shark

The video doesn't really show me anything-just crummy computer animation with a "stiff" shirt-now show me a REAL machine filled with REAL CLOTHES and WATER.And the prices for the machines and bases is a SCAM!!!Be cheaper for me to take my clothes to the cleaners or a laundramat.Don't like the idea the machines are built by someone other than WP.Won't buy for sure until I know the life and service history of these from other customers.Or for me I will continue to buy VINTAGE machines as much as I can.

...personally, after hearing the stories of many people here and local friends, I'm leery of the USA front loaders as a whole. Too many stories like the LG nightmare thread, too many wax motors, too many bearings, too many failed spins and motherboards.

To be fair, I've never heard these stories from Speed Queen or Miele owners.

American FL...

I to am very leery of the quality of new American FL's. I bought a Whirlpool Duet anyways. Only thing that I REALLY wish it had was the Digital time remaining screen. So when the CCU does go (which I'm sure it will eventually), I could see the F code and diagnose it myself. Unfortunately, if any problem occurs, I'm not going to know what it is and have to call in a tech.
