The owner said that it belonged to an older male professor, who, I'm judging by the condition of the lid bumpers, didn't use it an awful lot.

but after i pick up all the dead leaves, I'm going to attach a new drain hose to the pump (the bottom of the machine is quite shiny and clean), follow AW members' advice and fill it with hot water, probably some Mexican phosphate detergent and then let 'er rip. Will let y'all know what happens. Look at the measuring guide on the dispenser! Yeah, I'll use two cups.

Awesome washer. Keep us posted when you get it all cleaned up!

Very nice! Congratulations!

I would imagine the two cup mark was for people who still used the jelly soap back then. That would be about right for good suds. :)

Wow Ken that is simply beautiful, solid basket Hotpoints are some of the coolest and rarest vintage automatics around. Funny my Co-Axial Hotpoint is also a 1962 model, but it has a red control panel.

Awesome Find!

Congrats on finding the real deal in Hotpoints (IMO). The first washer we had was a 1964 Silhouette model which I have no memory of, as it died in 1972 when I was two years old. I have never seen or heard any of the coaxial transmission models work. Please post a vid of this when you get it cleaned up and running.

Have a good one,
James

Hotpoint washer

Congrats on your fine!

My Mom had the BOL 1959 Hotpoint. It is identical to this one except the controls on my Mom's laid flat on top. It only had the timer knob with hot and warm temp buttons. The opening in the rubber splash guard for the fill port was at 12:00 position. Later models had the openings between 10:00 and 11:00 position. When my Mom's washer would get off balanced
(which was often) the spash guard would move/turn around. Mom would grab it move it back to the 12:00 position. It had the red dispenser and lint filter except the guts of the filter were metal.

What year indeed???

bajaespuma's profile picture
I have no idea what year this was made. I'm about to go downstairs and do a maiden wash and I'll post the model and serial numbers asap. I'm guessing by the similar blue colors that it is a 1961 model, a more BOL version of the mate to Jetcone's beautiful turquoise and black dryer. Is that a '61? But wouldn't all machines have safety lid switches by then??

and Robyn, thank you again for posting those Hotpoint catalogues. 'Points rule!

Congrats Ken!

Ahhhhhh. Turquoise/Aqua are my favorite colors too! That is a beautiful machine and what a neat find. Maybe my turquoise and white 1964 Ford station wagon will someday bring me home a nice turquoise washer and dryer for my future home. Be on the lookout for the 1971 Hotpoint Dishwasher manual in your email. I just sent those out and am currently wrestling with getting all the scans as close to 100K as possible to post on the group. Enjoy that beautiful machine!

RESET

bajaespuma's profile picture
The reset button, I believe, resets the motor should it overload from either strain from too much laundry or a wild ride with an unbalanced load. Robert and Greg will know this for sure. I'm thinking that's what was listed on the schematic diagram as the "kick-out switch". Will have to review.

Most importantly, the reset button is one of those details that means you have a real Taylor Avenue factory-made Hotpoint and not a GE clone. I'm still pinching myself, these machines just don't seem to show up anywhere.

Post# 413080 , Reply# 39   2/6/2010 at 11:39 (5,190 days old) by gyrafoam (Wytheville, VA)

RESET is for when a motor overload would occur.
Sudz-Lock comes to mind, or a binding part somewhere.

Book says the LW260x series was 1962. There was a LW260, and a LW2606 that looks like your panel but with the suds saver - both are 2 speed.

The reset button is the shut-off for unbalanced load conditions.

Congratulations again, you must be floating on clouds of billowy suds!

Ooops. My bad. I figured an unbalance would bump the timer dial to shut it down. So the overload protector must be built right into the motor?

Yes reference the "LW2" in the model #, the "2" is the year.

2 = 1962,
3 = 1963, etc.
