WP has just stopped making the 1/3 HP motor dishwashers I believe these to be the best performing DWs built today. IF you want a DW that still cleans where you don't have rinse your dishes with a cycle time of aprox 45minutes. grab one fast. You can find them @ lowes under mod DU943 or other places under DU930 there is also a MT model MDB4929AWS called JET-CLEAN witch does not have the indoor silverware and still has the tower in the middle of the lower rack. There is also a model avabible under the KENMORE brand. THese DWs are only arouse 300 hundred dollars I recently found them @ Lowes for 198.00 after thanks giving. These are use-sally available in WH BLACK BISCH and SS.

These pc machines have been on the market awhile now. Parts should be available for awhile i would think. I wish i was in a better position to stock up on parts. The portables that are left ; do these machines still use that system?

I would buy one.............but I have no place to keep a spare dishwasher lying around...........I really have no problems with the one I have now quite honestly......I pack it with dirty dishes, never rinse and everything comes out clean with cascade complete and normal cycle with high temp......It's a tall tub du1055xtp model about 5 yrs old.

I have similar results to Mark. Mine's a Kenmore Elite. I use the same detergent. I use the smart wash cycle and it decides what to do based upon soil level senses. I have oatmeal bowls which sit for a week or more, as well as peanut butter coated knives, and all come out very clean. Got mine May, 2007.

This is terrible but I'm not surprised. I did think and I read somewhere the ones they have been making in the past 3 years have excess cycle times of 2 hours anyway. With all these government regulations our appliances have been ruined.

In excess of 2 hours....??? Really? I timed mine and on normal/high temp it's about 70 minutes without dry cycle (I don't use that)

Yes that was the end of the ones that completed in a normal amount of time. The newer ones after that ran much longer. For example on the normal wash it did a wash, purge, rinse.
If you want a more normal wash you need to select heavy wash. I am attaching a sears model manual which will indicate the times.

Mark is right on the money with that 70 minutes. Mine runs about that , maybe 80 at times, when I don't use heated dry, but that is extremely rare when I don't use heated drty. Peter, it's a Tall Tub. When the Tall Tubs came out, that's how they all worked. GEEZ

Very dumb question

Since my rinse aid dispenser isn't working; if I buy those jet dry rinse aid baskets that hang on the rack, are those any good? I've always wondered if they worked well or not...Would it affect washing performance since I'm sure rinse aid would also get into the wash since it's always exposed to the wash/and rinse water?

Not a dumb question. I'd be more concerned about how long each basket would last. But, if you're ok with how the drying performance is, I wouldn't worry about them.

WP POWER CLEAN DISHWASHERS

The normal cycle is aprox 45 minutes we sold over 200 of these last year alone. The tall tubs will get dishes clean I have many customers and friends who are very happy with them. WPs tall tub with the disposer is still one of the best tall tub machines. That said there is not nearly the water force used if dishes are tightly stacked and touching slightly food particles may romaine on dishes. The disposer system will not handle nearly the amount of solid food we do service calls every week to scoop out hand fulls of food glop that are completely blocking the pump inlet. Some thing I have never had to do with the power clean machines. The durably of the main pump seal and motor are also very poor in the TT machines we change many ever week avarage life seems to be 6or7 years but many fail in the first year or so. They are a pain to change do to the limited access and a 250.00 job.

John,

I am seriously considering buying a Power Clean machine (have wanted one for a while now) to replace my 2003 GE Profile Tall Tub which I basically only tolerate.

Do you have much experience with the GEs? Mine is a PDW7800. It replaced a Potscrubber 1200 (what a lame trade-off that was!) and though the DU930 and DU945 don't offer the quietness level and some features of the GE, I would MUCH rather have the WP machine.

Your thoughts?

Gordon

First thanks Jhon for posting.
Gordon when i got my portable dishwasher seven years ago i was at a crossroads as well.
It was between the G.E. or whirlpool i went with the Whirlpool because of the full basket at the bottom no tower.
G.E. is a little more quite but the whirlpool is not bad at all i have had success with this machine for a good while and it cleans very, very well.
So it is disappointing i would buy another one in a heart beat.
So i will pay homage to the machine that we all love so well.
Here are some pics.
I was in New jersey at a appliance store when i saw the first Power clean wash system in 96 or 97 i knew it was different when the large mesh filter system was abandon, and saw this new mesh filter system under the spryarm and the slats where the water is recirculated.

I thought I was in the market for a new d/w, as my WP Powerclean had started to become incontinent from the door...suds overflowing onto the floor, but, alas, it seems to have corrected itself. I am no longer using Finish quantum, though..it seems to be the problem. Also, I need to break dear partner of soaking things in soapy water...that seems to contribute to the suds.

Kenmore Ultra Wash Model #16639000, non tall-tub.
I think it's the family you're talking about, judging from the pics that aldspinboy posted.

I have always loved this machine. Great value.

Well -

I guess I am going to be trying an experiment. Since I have always disliked my GE Profile tall-tub, I figured it's now or never like John said. So, today I went Power Clean shopping. They are already hard to find. The Lowe's DU945 wasn't in stock in the color I want, and the two local appliance stores can't get the DU930 (their computers say "see DU1010"). One Lowe's store showed 2 DU945s in stock, but they could not locate either one of them in inventory (very frustrating but I did have a funny experience on the washer sales floor I'll have to write about separately).

So, not to be daunted, it dawned on me to go to Sears. Their machine doesn't have the in-the-door silverware basket, but the one it has is at least twice the size of the basket in the Whirlpool. It offers a sani-wash that the WP does not, otherwise the machine appears essentially identical.

It turned out to be on sale for $15 less than Lowe's WP, and I got $15 more off for using a Sears card. So, the machine was bought in about 10 minutes flat. I am supposed to get it this coming Wednesday or anytime after that.

Now, what to do with the GE?

Gordon

Gordon,
That is an awesome find! The Kenmore's always seem to have more bells and whistles.
This wash system is very strong. It will remind you of the older dishwasher when you hear the wash action.
Put your GE on Craigslist. You will be amazed how fast it will sell. People are always looking for a bargain. Esp. these days.

Gordon ya done good. Not only does the Kenmore have the Sani-Rinse option the Whirly doesn't have, but it also has nylon racks, the Whirly has vinyl. FYI, when you use the high-temp wash option, you end up with 2 full rinses rather than a purse and rinse without using high-temp wash option.

Bob,
Great information. I never would have known that about the racks!
I just don't get the one rinse thing. I just traded out Saturday a KUDS-24 this weekend to use for awhile as a second dishwasher. (I trade out the 2nd dishwashers about every 6 or so months to keep them running) I love the KUDS-24 with the strong Whirlpool pump. The Stainless interior is so well made. What I don't like about this dishwasher is the one rinse, and not an option to add a second rinse. I will use it for awhile since it is such a great cleaner. Another thing that I do like about this dishwasher is the low water usage. It is surprising that in 1985 the max water usage was under 9 gallons for the soak & scrub. (longest cycle)

Did anyone know that newer dishwasher models are now filling with cold water i have to use the high temp (sani) option to get hot water to clean the dishes

Dishwashers only have one water connection, so cold fill depends on whether that connection is to a hot or cold supply. If you have an older dishwasher connected to the typical hot tap under the kitchen sink, a new model replacement won't by default become a cold fill unless the household plumbing is changed.

Sears model number

I downloaded three different Sears owner's manuals and they were all for 2 hour machines, even though called Ultrawash. They are available for all of the Kenmore dishwashers. Does anyone know the model number for the 45 minute machine? My 1999 Kenmore Ultrawash (45 minute) cleans great, but has those vinyl coated racks, all rusty and some broken tines. I could buy new racks for almost $200. The nylon racks of a new machine are appealing. Of course Kitchen Aid had those many years ago, one reason for their longevity.

Gordon can't wait to see your new dishwasher...congratulations.
It is funny about the Lows story half of big box sales have no clue about machines, which baffles me i can't tell you how many times i rescued people with respect of other sales people on the floor to sway them in another direction especially washers...Good for you.

Bob yes the Whirlpool has vinyl racks if you look at the top rack i have tip the tines so to reduce tine breakege and rust.
I don't use the dishwasher but once or twice a week the same pattern for seven years now, and got this model because i am in an apartment.
But if i had a new home i would like to have a SIEMENS with a glass window that someone posted here in the past , or a Professional Miele yes i will keep dreaming lol.
The best dishwasher i ever had was a GAGGENAU GM 215 it was cold water feed and a water softning system loved it.

Plus John, with that "1-hour wash cycle", that means this unit uses the alternating wash-arm/manual-clean filter (HE) wash system introduceed about 18 months to 2 years ago.
