Hi all, I stumbled upon a treasure trove of old photographs online made by Maynard L. Parker, mostly in California in the 30's to 60's. I have added the link below for the "Online Archive of California". Once you are on the site, use the search window, enter "kitchen" and click the "online items" button. You will now have 299 photos of kitchens, appliances, cookware and the like from model homes and client homes of Mr Parker. I have added one of the photos from the collection here: Chris Choate home, Los Angeles, 1938. So get your coffee cups filled up, click away and enjoy.

It is a great link

which deserves detailed study. From a quick skim though I must say that to me it just underscores to great job that some guys here have done in creating their own period kitchens

Great link, thanks.

I tried a search for "laundry" and got 14 hits. This is one of them.

What a cool web site. Thanks! Here is a photo of the old family ranch house kitchen built in the 1800's. It has had some upgrades over the years. It originally just had a wood stove where the electric G.E is now. Most of the cabinets are original. The red counter top I think was part of a 1940's upgrade.

It looks like Sam Walton's kitchen had one of the 30" GE roll-out dishwashers.

Oooooh,

Thanks for posting this! I've consumed a pot of coffee while drooling over most of those kitchens. What a great way to spend a lazy Saturday morning. Thanks again.

This Jackson residenc picture has some sort of Hotpoint front loader (windowed door with two small knobs on the upper right side of the machine). Could this have been the ill-fated combo?

Anybody ever notice (I did at age 14) how the old Hotpoint Walll ovens and the Hotpoint dishwasher looked almost like identical twins--at least definitely siblings.

Although the photo has a date of 1963, this is what our very sam e dishwasher looked like which was purchassed in 1960 or 1961 and went with us to the new house in September 1961 and the Tappan that was in the new house was put in our old house.

Did these ever come in 30" widths or is this just the angle of the lense?

And it doesn't look like there's a way to close off the laundry area. This kitchen won't stay clean long lol.

Well let's see. Saww numerous Electric Sinks from late 1940s through early 1950s. A number of kitchenAids too. and with the majority of houses being in the Los Angeles area, quite a few Waste King dishwashers. Also several GE and Westinghouse roll-out units. Also several of thed Hotpoints, including one or two of the very early post-war versions, like one in the last year or so in upstate New York. Saw one spray tube. also saw a beautiful Blackstone pair; an early Kenmore or Whirlpool pair, a few Bendix and combos and one RCA Whirlpool combo like Robert's. Very fun!! But obviously extremely successful husbands back then.

I can't wait to share the pic of Henry Fonda's 1948 laundry room wuth the bolt-down Bendix and the White King detergent. Never heard of that one before. 1948 is the year Fonday made "Fort Apache" in Monument Valley, Utah. I wonder if he brought home any dirty laundry with some of that deep red dirt from the location!

RE: is is a combo? NO

That is Hotpoint's first dryer. It has Calrod heating elements when even the GE dryer had open coils. John has this model and bent Filtrator elements to fit so they have this wavy orange look like neon sculpture when they are hot. Like other early dryers, it is virtually silent in operation.

Thanks Tom. For some reasson, it still kinda reminds me of some vintage Hotpoint Combos I've seen from across the pond.
