Nice set. I remember seeing those on the showroom floor in 1985, but these models originated in 1982. I was quite impressed by their styling, and so were several other people that were walking by. Have a good one, James |

I would have said these debuted in 1983, however some models did come out early, so James is probably quite correct. They do have an '83 model number. This model washer survived unchaged from introduction to late fall 1986. I've seen quite a number of them. They were originally available in White, Almond, Golden Wheat, Coffee, and Avocado, then the last two colors gave way to Toast and Platinum. Of all those colors, I've only seen White and Almond on these. These are somewhat significant washers in that they were the first mechanical timer Lady Ks since 1977, as the 1978 Lady was electronic, as were follow-on models. This is also the last belt-drive Lady. There was a fancier model on the market, however it was a 1982 model electronic machine known as the 'Limited Edition' I believe. It was available in Ebony as well as the other colors. These were also among the last Belt-Drive Kenmores available. Due to their price (my guess anyway) they lingered in stock longer than the 70 and 80 series machines. By later October 1986, this set, and the entry-level 70-series large cap. washer (paired with a standard cap. dryer) were all that was left in Kenmore's closeout ads. This particular pair is a later issue due to the white powder coat finish in the dryer - that came in late 1984/early 1985 I believe. Gordon |
